About Us

CANARIE connects Canada to the world. Our programs equip researchers, students, and startups in Canada to excel on the global stage.

Together with our 13 provincial and territorial partners, we form Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN). This ultra-high-speed network connects Canada’s researchers, educators, and innovators to each other and to global data, technology, and colleagues.

To strengthen the security of Canada’s research and education sector, we collaborate with our partners in the NREN, government, academia, and the private sector to fund, implement, and support cybersecurity initiatives. We also provide identity management services to the academic community through eduroam and identity and access management services.

Established in 1993, CANARIE is a non-profit corporation, with most of our funding provided by the Government of Canada.

The Position: Manager, Procurement

The Manager, Procurement is accountable for leading procurement activities across CANARIE and plays a key role in supporting responsible, transparent, and effective purchasing decisions. Working closely with teams across the organization, this role helps ensure procurement practices align with CANARIE’s Procurement Policy.

This is a full-time, term position through December 2027 and is intended to provide coverage during a maternity leave. The role reports to CANARIE’s Senior Director, Finance and Operations.

The salary range for this role is between $125,000 to $162,000.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with teams across CANARIE to lead complex procurement initiatives, from planning and sourcing through to contract award, while supporting responsible, transparent, and effective purchasing decisions.
Procure goods and services, including technical solutions, hardware, software, professional services, and corporate services.
Prepare and issue procurement documents, including RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs.
Manage and evolve CANARIE’s procurement policy processes and third-party risk management practices.
Manage vendor relationships, contract renewals, and negotiations.
Develop procurement reporting, including metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Identify and implement opportunities to improve procurement processes, tools, and templates to make procurement easier, clearer, and more efficient for teams across CANARIE.
Provide procurement advice that supports value for money, ethical practices, and CANARIE’s objectives.
Travel may occasionally be required.
Other related duties and responsibilities, as required.

What You Bring

Education and Experience

College diploma or university degree in Business or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant training.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive procurement experience.
Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation preferred.
Experience with technology vendors is desirable.

Skills

Ability to act as a trusted advisor, understand needs, identify risks, and co-develop procurement strategies.
Excellent relationship management and customer service focused.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple procurement initiatives, deadlines, and priorities.
Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
Ability to develop procurement reporting and KPls.
Knowledge of third-party risk management practices and ethical procurement.

Technical Proficiencies

Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
Working knowledge of ERP applications and procurement platforms.

Responsibilities

Lead procurement initiatives from planning and sourcing through contract award, including purchasing technical and corporate goods and services and preparing procurement documents. Manage procurement policies, third-party risk practices, vendor relationships, renewals, negotiations, reporting, and process improvements while advising teams on value for money and ethical purchasing.

Requirements

Requires a college diploma or university degree in Business, or a suitable combination of education, experience, or relevant training, and at least seven years of progressive procurement experience. The preferred candidate has an SCMP designation, strong relationship and organizational skills, knowledge of third-party risk management and ethical procurement, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ERP applications, and procurement platforms.
