Original job description

Founded in 2011, CanCap Group (“CanCap”) is a growing, dynamic national financial services company with offices in downtown Toronto and Mississauga. Operating in all provinces and territories, CanCap’s core business is loan origination and servicing primarily in the automotive and consumer finance space with end-to-ed multi-product lending capabilities, which has been built on a foundation of best- in-class people and processes. It manages the entire lifecycle of the receivable from credit adjudication through to contract administration, customer service, default management and post charge-off recoveries. CanCap has a highly experienced leadership team and strong partnerships with some of Canada’s largest financial institutions.

It also manages a group of private credit funds which support the investment structure of loans we originate and portfolio manage. The funds provide asset-backed financing across non-prime auto, consumer and merchant lending verticals. As the platform grows, we are building out a dedicated portfolio analytics and structured finance function to support disciplined cashflow forecasting, capital structuring, fundraising, stakeholder reporting and investor relations.

Job Description

CanCap has the immediate need for a skilled and energetic Senior Financial Analyst, reporting to the Manager, Finance. The Senior Financial Analyst will play an important role in the CanCap’s accounting, financial and funder reporting team. This role will also support the Manager, Finance oversee the fund's capital structure, translate pool-level loan performance into projected cashflows, evaluate expected returns, monitor collateral and cashflow coverage for lenders, and delivering advance analytics and insights to investors and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Funder & Financial reporting:

Completion of full cycle accounting activities under ASPE and IFRS accounting standards such as:
- Preparation or review of monthly journal entries and supporting schedules
- Reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts
- Reconciliation of clearing accounts and identify/resolve variances
- Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements and related note disclosures
Preparation of monthly funder reporting packages.
Preparation of monthly tranches of loan receivables for submission to the funders to obtain securitized debt and coordinate with the funders for related documentation
Proactively identify and address the root cause of issues encountered during performance of tasks / analytical reviews and communicate effectively – orally and in writing
Assist with implementation of automation and efficiency improvement opportunities
Support annual audit and funder site audits by compiling required data and information
Other projects, duties, and tasks as assigned from time to time

Cashflow Modeling & Portfolio Analytics

Maintain, and continuously refine loan-level and pool-level cashflow models for auto loan portfolios.
Project fund-level and deal-level cashflows to support forecasting, liquidity planning, and capital call/distribution timing.
Track actual portfolio performance against modeled assumptions and recalibrate models based on observed trends.
Translate model output into clear, decision-ready investor materials - fund performance decks, quarterly reporting packages, and ad hoc analyses for existing and prospective LPs.

Required Skills & Competencies

5+ years relevant work experience in the financial services field
Full cycle accounting experience
Post-secondary education with a specialization in Finance, Accounting or a related field
Advanced Excel skills - complex formulas and scenario/sensitivity toggles. VBA or Power Query experience is an asset
CPA or CPA equivalent designation is an asset, but not a must
Experience with Sage 300 ERP or similar accounting software is an asset
Self-directed and comfortable owning a workstream end-to-end in a lean, entrepreneurial team environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Agile and analytical problem-solving capacity
Pride in achieving a high degree of accuracy within a fast-paced environment

Additional Information

Currently, this is a hybrid role that will be set-up for in office and remote work. You will be required to work in the office as advised by your manager. This may be adjusted at any time at the discretion of CanCap with reasonable notice. Location of employment is at 11 Church Street, Toronto, ON, M5E 1M2.
