Job Title: Director, Manufacturing Operations & Supply Chain
Location: Pickering, ON
Work Hours: 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday
Compensation Range: $125,000.00
About the role:
The Director, Manufacturing Operations & Supply Chain leads the performance and development of manufacturing, production planning, procurement, inventory management, warehousing, and logistics. Reporting to the CEO, the Director builds capable teams and dependable processes that deliver safe, compliant, high-quality products against achievable production and customer commitments.
The Director owns the integrated manufacturing and supply plan, bringing together customer demand, labour and equipment capacity, purchased materials, and internally-produced cannabis ingredients. Working with the Extraction, Formulation, Product Development, Quality, Finance, and Sales teams, the Director resolves operational constraints and drives measurable improvements in delivery, productivity, cost, and inventory reliability.
The Director delivers results through assigned operational leaders and teams, who execute day-to-day activities within their respective functions. The Director establishes direction, decision-making authority, controls, and performance expectations; monitors results; develops leadership capability; and intervenes where material risks, recurring issues, or cross-functional constraints require senior leadership.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and accountability
- Lead assigned operational leaders and teams, with clear responsibilities, delegated authority, performance expectations, and escalation routes.
- Coach supervisors and other leaders in day-to-day people management, including work allocation, attendance, performance conversations, training, and respectful problem resolution, with HR support.
- Assess team capability and coverage, address performance gaps promptly, and develop leaders who can manage daily operations effectively.
- Provide visible leadership on the manufacturing floor and establish routines for reviewing safety, production results, material shortages, and corrective actions.
Integrated planning and material readiness
- Direct the development and approve short- and longer-term manufacturing plans that reflect confirmed demand, forecasts, material lead times, realistic yields, labour, equipment capacity, and required Quality activities.
- Oversee the master production schedule and work-order process, including the accuracy of operational inputs, revision control, and coordination of required reviews.
- Establish and oversee a production-readiness process, ensuring that the schedule reflects confirmed or realistically expected material availability, capacity, and required Quality activities. Ensure that designated teams verify readiness before a production run proceeds; resolve escalated exceptions.
Planning and manufacturing execution
- Ensure that planning leaders establish ingredient requirements and supply commitments with Extraction and Formulation and resolve material constraints or competing priorities that require senior intervention.
- Establish the process and decision authority for confirming operational feasibility before customer delivery commitments are made. Review significant exceptions and capacity risks.
- Oversee production execution, staffing and labour allocation, equipment utilization, line readiness, housekeeping, and sanitation within assigned manufacturing functions.
- Hold operational leaders accountable for identifying bottlenecks, investigating losses, and implementing effective improvements. Lead the response to significant, recurring, or cross-functional issues that require senior intervention.
- Ensure that manufacturing and maintenance team leads coordinate equipment availability and planned maintenance. Resolve significant priority conflicts and evaluate resource or capital requirements.
Procurement and supplier performance
- Set procurement priorities and supplier-performance expectations. Ensure that purchasing activities align with approved demand, material specifications, lead times, inventory policies, and supply-risk controls.
- Oversee procurement strategy and supplier negotiations, approving commitments within delegated authority and leading material or strategically significant negotiations.
Inventory warehousing and logistics
- Establish dependable controls for cannabis and non-cannabis inventory across receiving, storage, issue to production, work in process, returns, and dispatch.
- Ensure that inventory records accurately reflect quantities, locations, lot traceability, allocations, and material status. Ensure that inventory teams maintain effective cycle-counting, reconciliation, and discrepancy-resolution processes. Review material variances and require corrective action for recurring issues.
- Oversee inventory policies and replenishment controls, holding the responsible operational leaders accountable for stock availability, aged inventory, and working-capital performance within their control.
- Oversee inbound and outbound shipment scheduling, documentation, carrier coordination, and delivery exceptions. Ensure daily execution and absence coverage have named owners.
Financial performance and improvement
- Prepare and manage operating budgets, labour and overtime costs, manufacturing expenses, and resource proposals with Finance and executive leadership.
- Define performance measures and targets, ensure accurate reporting, and use results to hold operational leads accountable and direct improvement priorities.
- Lead practical improvements to workflows, standard work, and production or inventory systems. Report results, risks, and actions to Senior Leadership.
Quality compliance and safety
- Ensure assigned operations follow applicable cannabis requirements, Good Production Practices, applicable Good Manufacturing Practices, approved procedures, and company health and safety requirements.
- Work with Quality to strengthen operational documentation and training. Hold operational leaders accountable for timely completion of assigned investigations, corrective actions, and change controls.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits. Ensure operational teams implement and sustain assigned actions, while respecting Quality’s designated approval, hold, and disposition authority.
- Promote safe work, prompt hazard reporting, and effective follow-through on incidents and corrective actions.
- Perform other duties consistent with the role.
Job Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in operations, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Substantial progressive experience in manufacturing operations, including leadership of production teams and multiple supply chain functions.
- Demonstrated success developing supervisors or managers, addressing performance issues, and improving results through clear accountability.
- Experience in regulated manufacturing. Cannabis, pharmaceutical, food, consumer packaged goods, or comparable manufacturing experience is an asset.
- Proven improvements in production planning, inventory accuracy, supplier reliability, productivity, cost, or delivery performance
- Strong working knowledge of demand and capacity planning, material requirements, inventory controls, warehousing, and logistics.
- Ability to use budgets, operational data, and cost analysis to set priorities and assess results; proficiency with spreadsheets and production or inventory systems.
- Practical understanding of ERP or MRP processes, bills of materials, work orders, lot traceability, and inventory transactions. Relevant supply chain or Lean training is an asset.
- Clear communication, sound judgment, and effective change leadership. Able to resolve competing priorities across departments and balance strategic planning with regular involvement on the manufacturing floor.
- The Director and Senior Leadership team member will agree on priorities and targets after establishing operational baselines. Early priorities include dependable inventory information, an achievable production plan, reliable ingredient and material supply, clear supervisory accountability, and a focused improvement plan
Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
