Original job description

Ready to Take the Lead?

Lead Process Engineer – CANUSA EPC Canada

Location: Calgary, Alberta | Full-Time

CANUSA EPC is looking for an experienced Lead Process Engineer to join our growing Calgary engineering team.

We're looking for someone with a strong process engineering foundation who is ready to take greater ownership of projects, work directly with clients, and help guide junior and intermediate engineers.

You don't need to have done everything on this list. If you have strong oil & gas or natural gas processing experience, can confidently lead technical work, and are ready to continue growing your expertise, we encourage you to apply.

This is an onsite position

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll lead and execute process engineering work across a variety of EPC projects while collaborating with clients, project managers, engineers, designers, vendors, and field personnel.

You'll have the opportunity to:

Lead process engineering activities from early design through project execution.
Develop and review Basis of Design documents, process studies, calculations, and technical reports.
Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Material Balances (HMBs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Build and review process simulation models using BRE ProMax, AspenTech HYSYS, or similar software.
Perform and review equipment, piping, valve, and pressure safety valve (PSV) sizing calculations.
Support pressure relief system and relief header analyses.
Review vendor documentation, equipment specifications, and technical deliverables.
Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, and multidisciplinary design reviews.
Work directly with clients to understand operational requirements, project objectives, and technical challenges.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
Collaborate with engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
Conduct site visits and field walkdowns.
Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational improvement activities.
Contribute to project proposals, estimates, and business development efforts.
Help improve CANUSA EPC engineering standards, procedures, and processes.

What We're Looking For

Required

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
Approximately 8+ years of relevant process engineering experience.
Experience in oil & gas, natural gas processing, petrochemical, chemical, or a related process industry.
Experience developing or reviewing PFDs, HMBs, P&IDs, process calculations, and equipment specifications.
Experience with process simulation software such as ProMax, HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or similar platforms.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or eligibility for registration.
Working knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to independently solve technical problems and provide direction on engineering projects.
Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Interest in mentoring and developing less-experienced engineers.

We'd Love to See

These are preferred - not deal breakers:

Experience with cryogenic gas processing, refrigeration, amine treating, and/or dehydration systems.
EPC or consulting engineering experience, particularly within the Canadian energy sector.
Experience leading small project teams or serving as a technical lead.
Field experience supporting commissioning, startup, or troubleshooting.
Familiarity with applicable Canadian and international standards, including CSA, ASME, API, and relevant provincial regulatory requirements.
Experience working with Alberta energy industry regulations and requirements.
Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients across Canada and the United States.

The Person We're Looking For

You may already be a Lead Process Engineer, or you may be a strong Senior Process Engineer who's ready for the next step.

We're interested in someone who can own their work, communicate confidently with clients, make sound technical decisions, and help develop the engineers around them.

We value practical engineering experience just as much as titles.

You don't need to know everything on day one. We value engineers who are curious, collaborative, willing to share their knowledge, and motivated to continue learning.

Location & Flexibility

This is a full-time position based in our Calgary, Alberta office and is not a fully remote role.

Our team works primarily in person because collaboration between engineering disciplines is an important part of how we execute projects. However, we recognize that flexibility matters and offer hybrid arrangements when needed for appointments, personal obligations, and other circumstances, subject to business and project needs.

Occasional travel to client offices and project sites throughout Canada and the United States may be required.

Candidates should have a valid driver's licence and be able to travel to project locations as needed.

This is an onsite position

Specific benefits and eligibility are subject to the company's Canadian benefits plans and policies.

Why CANUSA EPC?

This is an opportunity to join a growing EPC organization where experienced engineers can have a real influence on projects, clients, engineering practices, and the development of the team.

You won't be limited to one small piece of a project. You'll have opportunities to work across the project lifecycle, collaborate directly with clients, solve challenging process problems, and see your engineering work carried into the field.

As part of a company operating in both Canada and the United States, you'll also have opportunities to collaborate with engineering professionals across North America while contributing to projects that support the energy industry.

We believe strong engineering teams are built through collaboration, accountability, practical experience, and a willingness to learn from one another.

If you have strong process engineering experience and you're ready for more ownership and leadership, we'd like to meet you, even if your background doesn't match every bullet above.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

CANUSA EPC is committed to creating an inclusive workplace that respects the dignity of every individual and believes excellence is strengthened through diversity.

We welcome applications from qualified individuals of all backgrounds and are committed to providing fair and equitable employment opportunities.

Accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process for applicants who require it.
