This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting one or more Cap West Group companies operating on the project. The Advisor will work closely with Superintendents, Forepersons, workers and the general contractor's safety team to identify hazards, address safety concerns and support compliance with company and WorkSafeBC requirements.
Reporting to the Cap West Group HSE Manager, the Advisor will assist with workplace inspections, safety documentation, incident investigations and corrective action follow-up.
We are looking for someone who is practical, approachable and able to work independently, build good relationships with site personnel and follow through on safety concerns while maintaining clear accountability between HSE and site supervision.
Perks & Benefits
- Comprehensive Benefits Package that provides extended health care, dental care, vision care, life insurance and critical illness.
- Continuous learning opportunities with an annual educational allowance.
- Generous referral program ranging from $500-$2,500 depending on business need.
- Regular consistent team building activities and events.
- Discounts to local amenities and vendors.
- Discounted hotel stays in multiple locations through our Hospitality offerings.
What you will do:
On-Site Safety:
- Be present on the assigned project each workday and maintain regular contact with the Superintendent, Forepersons and crews.
- Provide HSE support to the various Cap West divisions involved in the assigned project, as required.
- Help site supervision understand applicable WorkSafeBC requirements and company procedures; bring matters requiring operational decisions to the responsible manager.
- Liaise with the general contractor’s safety team on matters affecting Cap West crews and follow up with the responsible supervisor.
- Keep the Group HSE Manager informed of repeated deficiencies and significant site concerns.
Inspections and High-Risk Work:
- Walk work areas regularly, document inspections and follow up with the responsible supervisor on identified deficiencies.
- Check that FLHAs, toolbox talks, required inspections, permits and relevant Safe Job Procedures are completed and available for the work underway.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place for work at heights, formwork and stripping, lifting activities, mobile equipment, excavations and other hazards present on the project.
- Review crane binder records for completeness and currency, assist with binder audits and work with Operations to obtain missing inspection, maintenance and other required records.
Incidents and Emergency Preparedness:
- Report incidents and near misses promptly.
- Assist with investigations and corrective-action follow-up. More serious or complex investigations will be directed by the Group HSE Manager.
- Provide site information and documentation to support injury management and return-to-work coordination led by the Group HSE Manager and HR.
- Help check project emergency arrangements, first aid supplies and emergency equipment, and support drills as needed.
Safety Records:
- Assist site supervision to put Cap West HSE programs, Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures into use on the project.
- Keep project safety records current in Autodesk, SharePoint and other company systems.
- Assist with WorkSafeBC visits and the closeout of assigned findings.
Training and Site Communication:
- Assist with worker orientations, safety meetings, toolbox talks and project safety communications.
- Review worker training and task-specific tickets and flag missing or expired qualifications to supervision.
- Discuss safety concerns and practical controls with supervisors and workers.
- Other related duties as directed by the Group HSE Manager.
AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
The Advisor may stop or intervene in work presenting immediate danger and must notify the responsible supervisor and Group HSE Manager.
What you bring:

- 3–5 years of construction safety experience, including experience working directly with site crews and supervision.
- Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC requirements
- Experience with inspections, hazard assessments, incident reporting and maintaining site safety records.
- Able to manage routine site safety duties independently and know when to ask for support or escalate concerns.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with Superintendents, Forepersons, tradespeople, general contractors and management.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation to the assigned Lower Mainland project.
- Comfortable using electronic reporting systems and standard business software.
Assets:
- Familiarity with tower crane operations, crane binder requirements, rigging, formwork, civil construction, electrical, panels and drywalll work.
- Experience assisting with COR audits and WorkSafeBC inspections.
