Following the success of our Reford 1 SAGD Project, Cardinal Energy is now expanding its thermal heavy oil operations in Saskatchewan with the ongoing execution of the Reford 2 SAGD Project as well as the development planning of Project #3 and beyond. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a skilled Thermal Production Engineer to join our dynamic team. Periodic field trips will be an expectation for this role.

Position Overview:

As the Thermal Production Engineer, you will be instrumental in maximizing the value of our SAGD projects in Saskatchewan. You will work across a multidisciplinary team on greenfield and brownfield SAGD projects with responsibilities spanning day to day production, forecasting, well delivery, completions, disposal well strategy, water source management and economic forecasting.

Experience and Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

·        Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA or APEGS.

·        Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience.

·        Experience in thermal heavy oil production is strongly preferred.

·        Experience with SAGD production techniques, project economics, production forecasting, or capital budgeting.

·        Experience with PARCview, downhole temperature monitoring software, steam injection modelling, and PowerBI.

·        Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to coordinate multiple concurrent activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Daily surveillance of wells to ensure safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective operations.

2.     Monitor production performance to identify well optimization opportunities and maximize recovery and asset value, flagging risks and implementing corrective actions.

3.     Compile weekly and monthly production reports to track key SAGD performance metrics.

4.     Review and interpret subsurface monitoring tools like DTS and observation well data to optimize well performance.

5.     Support annual production budgeting, expenditure tracking, and forecasting activities.

6.     Originate and utilize data analysis and visualization tools to monitor production performance, identify trends and anomalies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

7.     Contribute to completions design and well workover planning and execution.

8.     Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Facility Engineering, Operations, and Environmental Health and Safety, to achieve project objectives and optimize asset performance.

9.     Travel periodically to field locations to provide technical support and collaborate with field personnel to optimize operational performance and address challenges as they arise.

If you are a motivated and results-oriented professional with a passion for thermal heavy oil production and the flexibility to travel periodically to field locations, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity. Join us in shaping the future of sustainable energy production.
