The Opportunity
Your day will begin by transporting an active 6-year old child from their foster caregiver home in Northwest Edmonton to school in West Edmonton.
In the afternoon, you will pick the child up from school and spend meaningful time engaging in age-appropriate activities and community outings before returning them home.
You will play an important role in providing consistency, emotional support, positive mentorship, and trauma-informed care. This child is active, energetic, and enjoys opportunities to play, explore, and stay engaged. We are looking for someone who can match that energy while providing the patience, structure, and therapeutic support needed to help the child thrive.
Before You Read On…
- This is a role where a child's trust, joy, and sense of safety depend on you showing up, fully present.
- Consistency matters. The child you support needs someone dependable, engaged, and committed to building a meaningful relationship.
- If you are ready to laugh, play tag, shoot hoops, set healthy boundaries, and be a steady, caring presence through both challenging and rewarding moments, keep reading!
While this position involves supporting a young child, the responsibilities of a Child and Youth Care Worker differ significantly from those of a traditional daycare or childcare provider.
This is a specialized, relationship-focused role that requires an understanding of trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and therapeutic intervention. Children and youth receiving services may experience complex emotional, behavioural, or developmental challenges.
You may encounter situations involving:
- Emotional dysregulation, frustration, or difficulty managing transitions.
- Resistance to instructions, routines, or established boundaries.
- Verbal or physical aggression.
- Withdrawal, anxiety
What Success Looks Like
- A child smiles because they feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for.
- You actively participate in their interests, whether that's basketball, games, outdoor adventures, or exploring the community.
- You provide clear, respectful boundaries and follow through consistently.
- You recognize when a child needs encouragement, reassurance, structure, or space.
- You help the child navigate challenging emotions with patience and empathy.
- You show up consistently and become a trusted, dependable presence in their daily routine.
We thank all applicants for applying; however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
