Primary Objective of the Position:
The successful applicant will maintain and troubleshoot Cargojet’s aircraft avionics and electrical systems to the highest level of reliability and ensure duties are performed in accordance with Cargojet’s MCM, MPM and approved technical documentation.
Key Objectives:
- Perform aircraft maintenance in accordance with Cargojet's Maintenance Control Manual (MCM), Maintenance Policy Manual (MPM), approved technical data, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Exercise Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) certification privileges applicable to avionics maintenance and complete maintenance releases in compliance with CAR 571 and company procedures.
- Perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, servicing, modification and testing of aircraft avionics, electrical, communication, navigation, instrumentation and associated aircraft systems.
- Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting and replacement activities on avionics, electrical, communication, navigation, instrumentation, flight control and other aircraft systems in accordance with applicable Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA).
- Ensure all avionics components, aircraft spares, materials and equipment issued for maintenance are properly controlled and maintained in a serviceable condition until installation.
- Identify, tag, document, and return unserviceable components to quarantine stores in accordance with company procedures.
- Accurately complete and certify maintenance records, logbooks, work packages, technical reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Identify and report Service Difficulty Reports (SDRs) in accordance with Transport Canada requirements.
- Proactively identify developing avionics and electrical faults, potential failure modes, intermittent defects, and reliability concerns to prevent unscheduled maintenance events and improve fleet performance.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing premature component failures and improving aircraft dispatch reliability.
- Maintain accountability for shop equipment, tooling, ground support equipment, maintenance vehicles, and airside equipment.
- Maintain a current working knowledge of company manuals, technical publications, maintenance procedures, and government regulations applicable to the role.
- Take ownership of personal training, certification requirements, and professional development to remain current with all technical and regulatory requirements.
- Perform assigned maintenance duties on Cargojet aircraft and support equipment efficiently, effectively, and to the highest quality standards.
- Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ensure full compliance with the company Safety Management System (SMS), security programs, and all applicable health and safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned in support of operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, test and certify aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
- Ensure that aircraft avionics systems and associated equipment are maintained, tested and serviced in a timely manner
- Carries out assigned daily avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection and modification tasks.
- Troubleshoots avionics and electrical systems, performs repairs, component replacements, wiring repairs and adjustments in accordance with approved maintenance procedures.
- May direct the work of several Aircraft Apprentices and Trades Helpers.
- May be required to fly with aircraft as flight engineer.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft avionics and electrical maintenance practices, inspection procedures, troubleshooting techniques and airworthiness standards.
- Ability to interpret and work with aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, system drawings and applicable technical publications.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety requirements, hazard awareness, and fire prevention practices.
- Proficiency in the use of avionics test equipment, diagnostic tools, multimeters, specialized test equipment and aircraft system test equipment
- Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and sequence maintenance activities to meet operational and maintenance requirements.
Education, Training & Experience
- Transport Canada Approved Training Diploma with accreditation
- Applicable aircraft avionics type training and/or endorsement courses, an asset.
- Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence (E).
Location & Work Environment:
- Work is performed in both hangar and outdoor operating environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions and airport operations.
- Required to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, to support continuous maintenance and operational requirements.
- Must be available to work flexible schedules and respond to operational demands as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Licence (E).
- Type training and/or demonstrated avionics maintenance experience on Boeing 757, Boeing 767, and/or Boeing 777 aircraft.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP).
- Possession of a Restricted Operator Certificate - Aeronautical (ROC-A).
- Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and other maintenance-related software systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with team members, management, and operational personnel.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in a dynamic operational environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and perform effectively under pressure while maintaining a high standard of safety, quality, and accuracy
