Original job description

Technical Program Engineer - North Vancouver, BC

Engineer Solutions. Plan Strategically. Deliver Performance.

At Carlson Marine & Industrial Rentals (CMIR), we do more than provide equipment. We help build the infrastructure that keeps Western Canada moving.

As the equipment division of Carlson Construction Group, CMIR supports some of the region's most complex marine, industrial, infrastructure, and heavy civil construction projects. From specialized marine assets and barges to cranes and heavy equipment, our fleet plays a critical role in powering projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Our clients trust us to deliver reliable equipment, innovative solutions, and exceptional service when it matters most.

We are seeking an experienced and driven Technical Program Engineer to join our team in North Vancouver and play a key role in shaping the future of our growing operation.

This is more than an engineering position. It is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the performance, reliability, and strategic direction of one of Western Canada's leading marine and industrial equipment providers. Working alongside operational leaders and project teams, you will help optimize fleet performance, support maintenance and asset management programs, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to the long-term success of the business.

We are looking for a collaborative and results-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex operational challenges, and is passionate about engineering excellence. If you are excited by the opportunity to influence fleet strategy, improve operational performance, and support critical projects across the region, we would like to hear from you.

Why Join CMIR?

Health, Safety & Environmental Excellence

Champion a strong safety culture across equipment operations, maintenance activities, and field services.
Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Promote safe operation of cranes, barges, marine equipment, and heavy construction equipment through incorporation of best in class safety standards into technical program.
Demonstrate visible safety leadership and reinforce CMIR's commitment that everyone goes home safely every day.

What You'll Bring

Our ideal candidate has experience with heavy equipment coordination and design knowledge that supports construction, marine, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects and understands the critical role equipment plays in successful project execution.

Experience

Proven experience on design and procurement support for heavy equipment fleets supporting construction, marine, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects.
Experience in fleet management, maintenance planning, equipment utilization, dispatch, asset management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Experience working closely with project managers, superintendents, estimators, and construction teams.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Experience

Experience in marine construction, heavy civil contracting, infrastructure construction, or heavy equipment rental operations.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or civil engineering preferred.
Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline will also be considered.
P.Eng. designation, or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), is considered an asset.

What Makes You Successful

Proven leadership and team-building skills.
Strong operational and financial acumen.
Ability to balance equipment availability, utilization, maintenance, and customer requirements.
Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Join a Team That Builds What Matters

At CMIR, your leadership will directly influence the success of major projects, the performance of critical equipment assets, and the growth of an organization that plays an essential role in Western Canada's construction and marine industries.

Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000 per year
