Original job description

Insurance Defense & Class Actions Associate (2–4 Years)

Litigation Associate – Toronto

A premier Ontario-based law firm is currently looking for a Litigation Associate to join their highly-regarded insurance defense and class actions practice in North York. This firm is recognized for its sophisticated approach to advocacy and a culture that prioritizes professional development and cross-team collaboration.

The Opportunity

This role is designed for an ambitious lawyer looking to transition into a more substantial platform. You will handle a diverse and challenging portfolio - including complex Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and tort claims, as well as defending major institutional and corporate clients in complex class action proceedings - while gaining direct, hands-on experience in the courtroom and before administrative tribunals.

Key Benefits:

Trial & Hearing Exposure: Frequent opportunities to lead and assist on high-stakes litigation and class-proceeding matters.

Balanced Structure: A competitive and achievable billing target that respects your time.

Hybrid Work Environment: A modern hybrid work schedule.

Professional Pedigree: Work alongside some of the city's most respected litigators and class action defense counsel in a mentorship-heavy environment.

Candidate Requirements

Experience: 2–4 years of post-call experience in insurance defense and/or commercial litigation, with exposure to multi-party or class action proceedings.

Competence: A proven ability to manage files independently, from initial assessment through to certification motions, mediations, or trial.

Strategic Thinking: A proactive approach to file resolution, risk assessment, and a keen eye for detail in large-scale document management.

Communication: Exceptional drafting skills and the confidence to provide high-level counsel to sophisticated insurer and corporate clients.

Why This Firm?

Opportunities at this level within such a prestigious downtown group are infrequent. If you are looking to move away from a siloed role and into a position that offers true career trajectory, courtroom time, and exposure to cutting-edge class action defense work, this is the ideal transition.
