The Opportunity

Cartel Inc. is proud to represent a top-ten personal injury law firm in Toronto in its search for a talented Personal Injury Lawyer to join its growing litigation team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 2–5 years of personal injury litigation experience - whether gained on the plaintiff or defence side - to take the next step in their career with a sophisticated, high-volume practice. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced litigators and have meaningful exposure to complex personal injury matters, while receiving strong mentorship and support.

The firm has built an outstanding reputation for its advocacy, client service, and results-driven approach to personal injury litigation. Lawyers joining the team benefit from a collaborative environment, high-quality files, excellent resources, and the opportunity to develop their practice within an established market leader.

The Role

As a Personal Injury Lawyer, you will manage a diverse caseload and play an active role in files from initial assessment through resolution. You will have the opportunity to take increasing ownership of your matters, develop your advocacy skills, work directly with clients, and collaborate with senior lawyers on complex litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through settlement or trial.
  • Assess claims, develop litigation strategies, and provide practical legal advice to clients.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, affidavits, mediation briefs, settlement proposals, correspondence, and other litigation materials.
  • Conduct and participate in examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and settlement discussions.
  • Attend court and other litigation-related appearances as required.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, insurers, and other parties.
  • Work closely with senior counsel on complex, high-value, and strategically significant matters.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and ensure they remain informed throughout the litigation process.
  • Review medical, employment, financial, and other evidence relevant to liability and damages.
  • Coordinate with experts, medical professionals, and other litigation professionals where appropriate.
  • Maintain organized files and ensure deadlines, procedural requirements, and limitation periods are properly managed.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and participate in the ongoing development of the firm's personal injury practice.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be a motivated litigator who has developed a solid foundation in personal injury law and is ready to take on greater responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • 2–5 years of experience in personal injury litigation, on either the plaintiff or defence side.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario civil litigation procedures and personal injury law.
  • Demonstrated advocacy, negotiation, and legal writing skills.
  • Experience managing files with increasing levels of independence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent client-service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career in personal injury litigation.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a recognized leader in Toronto's personal injury bar and work on sophisticated files within a highly supportive platform.

The firm offers:

  • Competitive compensation and a strong overall compensation package.
  • High-quality personal injury files and meaningful litigation exposure.
  • Direct mentorship from experienced and respected litigators.
  • A collaborative team structure with strong administrative and legal support.
  • Opportunities to conduct and attend discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, motions, and other substantive litigation proceedings.
  • A clear path for professional development and increasing responsibility.
  • A collegial culture that values advocacy, teamwork, and client service.
  • The opportunity to build a long-term career with an established and highly regarded Toronto practice.
