Sales

Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Join Caterpillar's Resource Industries Mining Solutions Division as a Surface Mining Representative and help shape the future of coal and metals mining across Canada.

This isn't just a sales role. It's an opportunity to drive innovation, influence major business decisions, and help customers solve some of the mining industry's most complex challenges. You'll work alongside Caterpillar dealers, customers, Cat Financial, Job Site Solutions (JSS), and Caterpillar leadership to deliver solutions that improve productivity, safety, sustainability, and profitability.

As a trusted advisor and commercial leader, you'll help customers navigate evolving technologies while supporting some of the largest mining operations and equipment investments in Canada.

What You'll Do

Lead the Coals & Metals Strategy

Own commercial sales responsibility for surface mining products and solutions within your territory.
Develop and execute growth strategies that align customer needs with Caterpillar's capabilities.

Consult & Collaborate

Partner with Cat dealers to market, position, and support Caterpillar's surface mining portfolio.
Build trusted relationships with key customer decision-makers and dealer leadership teams.

Develop Dealer Capabilities

Provide strategic guidance to strengthen dealer performance and customer support capabilities.
Share best practices and drive continuous improvement across dealer organizations.

Drive Commercial Excellence

Support forecasting, machine planning, rental and used equipment strategies, and customer account planning.
Identify opportunities to improve market share, profitability, and long-term customer partnerships.

Launch Innovation

Support the rollout of new products, technologies, and commercial initiatives.
Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer feedback to inform business decisions.

Optimize Customer Solutions

Recommend equipment, technology, and service solutions that maximize customer value.
Work cross-functionally to ensure solutions are aligned with operational and commercial objectives.

Strategic Planning

Assist with dealer business planning and develop programs that improve sales performance and price realization.
Support customers and dealers through large, complex equipment and technology decisions.

What Makes This Role Exciting: This is a high-visibility role supporting some of Caterpillar's largest mining opportunities across Canada. The role offers exposure to major commercial deals, industry-leading technology, and future career growth opportunities within Caterpillar.

What Makes This Role Challenging: This is a demanding but highly rewarding role that requires urgency, resilience, and a customer-first mindset. Customer needs don't always align with standard business hours, and success depends on influencing multiple teams to deliver results. You'll navigate complex commercial opportunities, competitive market dynamics, and the realities of both winning and losing major contracts while maintaining strong customer relationships.

What Skills You Will Have:

Industry knowledge: Surface mining experience through direct field assignments, dealer engagement, customer support, or commercial roles is a plus. Understanding of mining operations, equipment applications, and the challenges customers face in demanding environments. Mining sales experience is a strong asset.

Business development: Proven ability to drive growth through strategic planning, forecasting, sales variance analysis, and commercial creativity. Skilled at identifying opportunities and developing innovative solutions that deliver value for customers and Caterpillar.

Relationship management: Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to establish trust and credibility across customers, dealers, and internal stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and drive alignment among diverse groups.

Decision making and critical thinking: Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex situations, identify risks and opportunities, and make sound business decisions. Comfortable managing ambiguity and leading large, high-impact opportunities independently.

Effective communications: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence, present, negotiate, and build consensus across all organizational levels.

Customer focus: Passionate about understanding customer challenges and delivering tailored solutions. Recognized for strong customer relationship skills and a proactive approach to creating value.

Negotiating: Experienced in managing complex commercial discussions and high-value opportunities. Skilled at balancing customer needs, dealer expectations, and business objectives to achieve successful outcomes.

Value selling: Strong ability to articulate the value of products, technologies, and services while linking solutions directly to customer challenges, productivity goals, and business results.
