Original job description

CDN is a recognized industry leader in the energy services sector. CDN is a full-service provider with expertise in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, renewables/solar, major projects, combustion & emissions reduction, and measurement.

We’re looking for a hands-on Control Panel Specialist to join our fabrication shop at our Calgary NE Branch. This is a panel building and wiring role, not a design role. You’ll take finished drawings and turn them into clean, accurate, fully tested, and ready to ship control panels.

Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, you’ll build and wire panels from start to finish and keep assigned jobs moving to meet production deadlines. You’ll work both independently and with the fabrication team, troubleshoot routine issues, and continue building your technical skills as you gain experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lay out, drill, and mount backplates, DIN rail, wireway, and enclosure hardware.
  • Install breakers, contactors, relays, terminal blocks, power supplies, variable frequency drives, PLCs, and other panel components.
  • Complete accurate point-to-point wiring using electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strip, crimp, ferrule, route, and terminate conductors neatly and according to specifications.
  • Label wires, terminals, and devices based on drawing requirements.
  • Perform continuity checks and basic functional testing before panels are completed or shipped.
  • Identify and report discrepancies between drawings, components, and materials.
  • Manage assigned work to help meet project and production deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hands-on experience building or wiring industrial control panels (1 to 2+ years preferred)
  • Ability to read and follow electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Comfortable with hand tools, crimpers, wire strippers, drills, and multimeters
  • Familiarity with common panel components (Allen-Bradley, Phoenix Contact, Weidmuller, or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine wiring and assembly issues and know when to ask for support.
  • A sharp eye for detail and pride in producing safe, accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the fabrication team.
  • Ability to organize your work and meet production deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, apply feedback, and continue developing technical skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Electrical training, apprenticeship experience, or related technical education is an asset.

Our employment benefits include:

  • Belonging to a strong, motivating team.
  • On-the-job training and a commitment to mentorship from invested, industry-leading professionals.
  • Competitive pay, benefits, and RRSP-matching program.
  • Generous vacation and flex days.
  • Opportunities for advancement.

At CDN, our employees are united by our four core values:

  • Character.
  • Connection.
  • Drive.
  • Growth.
