Job Title: AV/IT Technician

Reports To: Manager, Technology

Department: AV/IT

Duration/Term Length: One (1) academic semester

Employment Type: Part-time, fixed term

Compensation: $21/Hr

Work Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week. Due to the nature of this role and CCSAI operational, business, and event needs, your work hours may vary from week to week and may lie outside conventional business hours, and your schedule may include early mornings, late nights and/or weekends.

Candidates must be available for a combination of:

Regular weekday shifts
Evening and late-night events
Weekend events and facility rentals
Occasional short-notice technical support

Location: The AV/IT Technician may be required to work at varied locations, such as the Athletic & Wellness Centre, Student Centre at Progress, other Centennial campuses and any special events that will be held and/or hosted by the CCSAI.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a reliable and technically skilled part-time AV/IT Technician to provide audiovisual support for meetings, presentations, sporting activities, special events, and facility rentals, while also assisting with basic day-to-day IT maintenance and technical support.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting technical issues, interacting professionally with staff and clients, and supporting events that may take place during evenings, late nights, and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Audio Visual & Event Support

Set up, operate, test, and dismantle audiovisual equipment for meetings, presentations, sporting events, conferences, and facility rentals.
Set up and operate projectors, TVs/displays, LED screens, microphones, speakers, mixers, laptops, presentation systems, and related AV equipment.
Connect client and staff laptops or devices to presentation and AV systems.
Perform sound checks and equipment testing before events.
Provide on-site technical support during events and troubleshoot AV issues as they occur.
Assist presenters, staff, students, and external clients with the proper use of AV equipment.
Ensure AV equipment is properly shut down, stored, and secured following events.
Maintain AV cables, adapters, microphones, batteries, and other accessories.
Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment and assist with basic preventative maintenance.

Basic IT Support & Maintenance

Provide basic technical support for desktop computers, laptops, monitors, printers, and other workplace technology.
Assist with Windows computer setup, software installation, updates, and basic troubleshooting.
Troubleshoot basic network, Wi-Fi, printing, display, and peripheral connectivity issues.
Set up workstations, monitors, keyboards, mice, docking stations, and related equipment.
Assist with user equipment changes, replacements, and technology deployments.
Perform basic equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
Maintain organized IT and AV equipment, cables, accessories, and inventory.
Escalate more complex IT, network, security, or system issues to the appropriate IT staff or service provider.

Qualifications

This position suits an IT, computer systems, electronics, media, or AV student or recent graduate looking to gain practical experience in both IT support and live-event technology.
Diploma, certificate, coursework, or practical experience in Information Technology, Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, Computer Systems, Media Technology, or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience providing AV, event technology, help desk, or basic IT support is an asset.
Good working knowledge of Windows and Apple computers and common workplace applications.
Familiarity with AV equipment such as projectors, displays, microphones, speakers, mixers, presentation systems, and video equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware, software, AV, and connectivity issues.
Strong communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work independently and respond calmly to technical issues during live events.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to safely move, set up, and dismantle AV and IT equipment as required.
Preferred qualification: valid Ontario G driver's licence, as occasional job-related travel may be required.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, dependable individual who enjoys both AV/event technology and IT support. They should be comfortable preparing equipment before an event, remaining on-site to provide technical assistance, troubleshooting problems under time pressure, and helping maintain computers and technology during regular operations.
