We are looking for a Systems Design Technologist to join our Platforms R&D organization. This is a hybrid role based in Mississauga, Ontario, combining on-site collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. You will work closely with colleagues, manufacturing facilities, laboratories and customers across Canada and the United States.
The Systems Design Technologist develops and commercializes innovative gypsum board and cold-formed steel framing systems that enhance structural, fire, acoustic, thermal and constructability performance. Working with technical experts and cross-functional partners, you will translate design concepts, testing data and field insights into practical building solutions that meet customer needs and industry standards.
- Develop and optimize gypsum board and cold-formed steel framing systems for performance and constructability.
- Plan, coordinate and support fire, acoustic, structural and building science testing; analyze results and recommend improvements.
- Lead product and system development activities from concept and prototyping through validation and commercialization.
- Partner with R&D, manufacturing, sales, supply chain and external stakeholders to implement system solutions.
- Gather contractor and market feedback, benchmark competitive systems and translate insights into product improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers, VIE participants and co-op students on research methods and technical design.
- Travel to manufacturing facilities, laboratories, suppliers, construction sites and customer locations across Canada and the United States, as required.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil or Building Engineering, or Applied Science, with relevant experience. A master’s degree is an asset.
- 5 to 7 years of experience with building systems, gypsum board or drywall assemblies, cold-formed steel framing, structural engineering or construction-material product development.
- Experience supporting fire, acoustic, structural or building science testing and evaluation programs.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD for system design, detailing and product development.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including AISI, ASTM, UL/ULC and CSA.
- Strong analytical skills, engineering judgment, project management and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and work across a matrixed organization.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel approximately 20–25%.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates, the base pay for this position ranges from
90 500$ to 115 000$ per year. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to education, experience, skills and qualifications as they relate to the role. Fully qualified and experienced candidates will typically align near the midpoint. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures.
