- Hybrid work arrangement with regular in-person collaboration from the Calgary office.
- Occasional travel may be required for commissioning, stakeholder engagement, vendor coordination, or field support.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day technical health, administration, configuration, and maintenance of the Ignition SCADA platform.
- Develop and maintain Ignition applications, Perspective views, UDTs, tags, alarms, reports, scripts, templates, and role-based access configurations.
- Take calls and respond to questions from field staff, control room personnel, and other users requiring immediate assistance with Ignition, alarms, data, communications, equipment visibility, or related operational issues.
- Deliver assigned SCADA enhancements from requirements clarification and solution configuration through testing, deployment, documentation, and transition to support.
- Participate in backlog refinement and provide practical estimates, technical input, status updates, and early identification of risks or dependencies.
- Follow established SCADA development, testing, release, documentation, cybersecurity, and change-control standards.
- Monitor platform performance and reliability, support root-cause analysis, and implement approved corrective or preventive improvements.
- Support FAT/SAT commissioning and integration of PLCs, edge devices, field communications, databases, and customer or partner systems.
- Assist with integrations between Ignition and Azure, databases, APIs, dashboards, analytics, and other business systems.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on equipment, PLC, alarm, workflow, and visualization improvements.
- Coordinate technical work with SCADA integration partners, network providers, hardware suppliers, and other vendors under the direction of the SCADA Lead.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, system diagrams, configuration records, test evidence, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Respond to urgent calls for business-critical operational issues, including coordination with the SCADA Lead, IT, Engineering, vendors, or field resources when escalation is required.
Requirements:
- Two or more years of hands-on experience supporting, configuring, or developing SCADA, HMI, industrial automation, or related operational technology solutions. Direct experience with the Inductive Automation Ignition platform is strongly preferred.
- Practical knowledge of one or more Ignition capabilities such as Gateway administration, Perspective, tags, alarms, historian concepts, reporting, scripting, or database connectivity.
- Experience troubleshooting production systems and working methodically through technical issues.
- Experience with PLCs, industrial edge devices, or protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and Modbus is an asset. Familiarity with serial communications is also an asset.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Python/Jython scripting, Rest APIs, or integration patterns. Experience with PostgreSQL, time-series data, or Microsoft Azure is an asset.
- Awareness of SCADA networking and security concepts, including VPNs, firewalls, identity and access management, backups, and recovery.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and comfort working directly in technical delivery and production support.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the patience and judgment to support field personnel by phone, translate user descriptions into technical symptoms, and explain troubleshooting steps in practical language.
- Ability to organize assigned work, communicate progress, follow standards, and seek guidance when risks or priorities are unclear.
- Ignition Core, Gold, or relevant Inductive University credentials are an asset.
- Experience in natural gas, energy, industrial automation, mobile assets, or other distributed operations is an asset.
- A diploma or degree in automation, instrumentation, computer science, information systems, electrical technology, or a related field is an asset. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
