Overview:

CFRU 93.3FM (Guelph, Ontario) is seeking one individual who will primarily work with the Volunteer and Mobile Studio Coordinator (VMSC) and other CFRU staff members to plan, implement, and oversee the next off-site residencies of our mobile studio initiative throughout the city of Guelph from January to August 2027. In collaboration with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition, we anticipate that the studio will be active in roughly three locations, for approximately 3.5 months in each. The Mobile Studio Assistant will also help to lead a “Starting a Mobile Studio at Your Station” workshop at the National Campus and Community Radio Conference in Halifax in June 2027.

Our goal is to have different Guelph and area community groups host and/or be interviewed, and access the studio as an educational and functional media resource, while also presenting stories from each location for radio content. The aim when possible is a weekly radio show. The Mobile Studio Assistant will meet at least once weekly with the VMSC, and will have access to the VMSC for additional support where needed. They will also attend weekly staff meetings. The Mobile Studio Assistant position may include coordinating on-air and production training, scheduling and facilitating guest interviews, and general support for participants in the project, as well as collaborating with other staff to properly promote aspects of these mobile studio-related projects.

Description of Duties

  • Coordinates the short-term installation of our mobile studio in different, relevant locations through the community.
  • Liaises with the VMSC and organizers at the aforementioned locations to determine whether our resources and initiatives would be appealing for members and others who utilize such spaces
  • Collaborates with other staff to properly promote aspects of these mobile studio-related projects
  • Works with community members, and trains and orients them to make use of the mobile studio
  • Coordinates programming for a weekly on-air program devoted to the space and mobile studio initiative with the aim of raising awareness of CFRU, expanding on our representation of community voices, and inspiring community members to create their own programs or contribute to CFRU in other ways

Qualifications

  • Work experience with marginalized community members (can include children, seniors, people living with disabilities, newcomers, or other vulnerable persons)*
  • A passion for campus/community radio;
  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of CFRU’s programming, guiding principles, and initiatives;
  • An understanding of Anti-Oppressive practices
  • The ability to identify some of the existing barriers to radio and media engagement, and adapt one’s approach for working with vulnerable and under-represented community members
  • Self-motivation
  • An awareness of diversity in Guelph and area communities
  • The ability to interpret and articulate CFRU's policies
  • Invested in building relationships

Assets

  • Lived experience with marginalization and/or barriers to access
  • Experience volunteering at CFRU or other campus-community radio stations

*The successful candidate will be required to provide a valid up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Check at the time of hire (to be reimbursed by CFRU).
