Agentic AI Developer

Position Description

We are seeking Intermediate Agentic AI Developers / AI Engineers to support an AI modernization initiative with a major Government of Canada department.

The successful candidates will join a CGI team working collaboratively with client technical teams to design, develop, and enhance AI agents and intelligent automation solutions using modern cloud technologies. The role offers an opportunity to apply emerging Agentic AI capabilities to real-world business challenges, from prototyping through production deployment, in a secure enterprise environment.

Location: National Capital Region (Ottawa, ON / Gatineau, QC), or within commuting distance

Security Clearance: Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, Government of Canada Reliability Status

Experience: 3+ years

Your future duties and responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and enhance Agentic AI solutions using AWS or Azure technologies.
• Build AI agents capable of retrieving information, interacting with tools, and executing multi-step workflows.
• Develop integrations with enterprise APIs, data sources, and business applications.
• Implement AI knowledge-retrieval, context management, and workflow orchestration capabilities.
• Evaluate, troubleshoot, and optimize AI agent accuracy, reliability, performance, and security.
• Support application testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with client developers, architects, and technical stakeholders to deliver practical AI solutions.
• Document technical designs, integrations, and implementation approaches.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

• 3+ years of professional software development or AI application development experience.
• Hands-on experience developing Generative AI applications, AI agents, or LLM-based solutions.
• Strong Python development skills, including API development and system integrations.
• Practical experience developing and deploying cloud-based applications using AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with AI agent concepts, including tool calling, workflow orchestration, and integration with external systems.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS or Azure AI services, such as Amazon Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, or equivalent AI development platforms.
• Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks such as Strands Agents, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar.
• Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent orchestration, and enterprise tool integrations.
• Exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), knowledge bases, embeddings, and vector search.
• Experience developing production AI applications, including testing, evaluation, monitoring, and responsible AI practices.
• Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud-native services, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud security.
• Experience developing solutions in public sector, government, or security-sensitive environments is an asset.
• English/French bilingualism is considered an asset.
  
  

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors including but not limited to skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $75,000 - $125,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
