Position Description
We are looking for an Agentic AI Engineering professional. This is a hands-on, full-stack role focused on building AI agents, software that can plan, use tools, and get real work done. You will build the application around the agent, including the front end, back-end APIs, and data, as well as the agent itself, including prompts, context, tools, and loops. You will work closely with business users and ship products people actually use.
This is a great fit for someone with a few years of full-stack experience who has moved into AI, enjoys building quickly with AI coding tools, and wants to go deeper into agentic AI.
This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto office a minimum of 2 days per week, subject to change at any time.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Design and build AI agents that use tools, memory, and multi-step loops to complete tasks.
- Build the full-stack application around the agent, including front-end, back-end APIs, and databases.
- Build strong context and retrieval (RAG) pipelines so agents work with the right data.
- Write clear prompts and design the harness and loops that let agents run, check their work, and retry.
- Set up evaluations (evals) to measure quality and catch mistakes before release.
- Use AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or Claude Code to build and test quickly.
- Ship to production, monitor how it runs, and continue improving it.
- Work directly with business users to understand the problem and deliver a working solution.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
- 4–5 years of full-stack software development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Node.js.
- Ability to build clean user interfaces and connect REST APIs and services.
- Solid working knowledge of PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Experience building full-stack software using AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM features or AI agents, including tools, memory, and loops.
- Good knowledge of prompt engineering, context engineering, harness engineering, and loop engineering.
- Ability to test work, run evaluations, and maintain quality.
- Interest in learning new tools and ideas, with the ability to pick them up quickly.
- Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical work in simple terms.
Assets / Nice to Haves
- Experience with RAG and vector databases, such as pgvector, Pinecone, or similar.
- Experience with agent frameworks, such as LangGraph or similar, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Knowledge or experience deploying applications to the cloud, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containers such as Docker.
- Interest or background in Banking, Insurance, or Wealth Management.
- Personal or open source projects that demonstrate an interest in building.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$115,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
