Python SDET (Data Validation & API Testing)

Position Description

CGI is seeking an experienced Python SDET to join our team supporting a leading banking client. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain automated testing solutions with a strong focus on Python programming, advanced SQL, API testing, and complex data validation. You will work with large datasets and enterprise applications to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and quality while collaborating with development and business teams to resolve technical challenges.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, requiring four days per week onsite.

Your future duties and responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automation frameworks, scripts, and reusable testing solutions.
• Perform complex data validation, reconciliation, and large-file testing using Python and SQL.
• Develop and execute automated API, integration, functional, and regression tests.
• Write and optimize advanced SQL queries to validate data integrity and troubleshoot discrepancies.
• Perform testing, debugging, and troubleshooting within Linux/Unix environments.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to define testing requirements and strategies.
• Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and support issue resolution.
• Contribute to test planning, release validation, and continuous improvement of automation practices.
  
  

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

• Experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or SDET roles.
• Strong hands-on Python programming skills, including independently developing, debugging, and maintaining automation code.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including complex queries, joins, data validation, and reconciliation.
• Strong Linux/Unix experience, including command-line operations, scripting, and troubleshooting.
• Experience processing and validating large files and complex datasets.
• Experience with REST API testing, backend validation, and automated testing frameworks.
• Working knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly explain coding approaches and technical decisions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  
  

Assets

• Experience with banking, financial services, or Anti-Money Laundering (AML) applications.
• Experience testing ETL pipelines and enterprise data reconciliation processes.
• Experience with Robot Framework or similar automation tools.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.
  
  

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000 - $110,000 CAD. This role is an existing vacancy.
