Manager, Human Resources & Labour Relations

Department: Human Resources

Reporting To: Director, Human Resources & Labour Relations

Compensation: CA$100,000 - CA$110,000 / year

Description

As our Manager, Human Resources & Labour Relations, you will build strong, trusting relationships across all levels of the organization while providing leadership and guidance on a broad range of human resources and labour relations matters. Partnering with employees, union members, and leaders, you will advise on performance management, collective agreement interpretation, grievance management, and workplace investigations. As a trusted resource, this role requires sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.

Principal Accountabilities:

Employee & Labour Relations:

Provide advice and coaching to leaders on policy and collective agreement interpretation, performance management, and employee relations matters.
Lead workplace investigations and support conflict resolution processes to ensure matters are handled consistently, fairly, and in alignment with company policy and applicable legislation.
Manage and oversee absence management and return-to-work programs, partnering with leaders, employees, and external stakeholders as required.
Oversee collective agreement administration and provide guidance to support consistent interpretation and application across the organization.
Participate in union meetings, grievance processes, arbitrations, and negotiations as needed.
Analyze HR data and metrics to identify trends, recommend actions, and support desired outcomes.

Recruitment:

Oversee the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, application screening, interview scheduling and participation, coordination of tours and appropriate tests, reference and background checks, and finalizing job offers.
Manage third-party recruiting relationships to support effective sourcing, candidate experience, and recruitment outcomes.
Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements and maintain accurate, current job descriptions.
Partner with leaders on departmental and team structure and workforce planning.

Other:

Update policies to reflect legislative changes and best practices.
Support HR technology upgrades and implementations by contributing requirements, testing, communication, and change-management support.
Participate in business initiatives as needed, providing HR and labour relations guidance to support effective implementation.
Plan and execute employee events and culture initiatives, and support community partnerships.

Required Qualifications, Education & Experience:

University or college degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
CHRP or CHRL designation an asset.
5+ years of progressive HR experience in a unionized environment, including experience advising leaders and managing complex employee and labour relations matters, preferably in manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of employment legislation, labour law, and HR best practices.
5+ years of experience in union/labour relations, including collective agreement interpretation, grievance and arbitration processes, workplace investigations, performance management, and advising leaders on labour relations matters, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated ability to lead HR projects, influence stakeholders, and drive process improvements.
Proficient with HRIS systems and HR data analytics.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Experience using data and insights to support decision-making.

Working Conditions:

Work is generally conducted within a manufacturing and office environment. Plant PPE is required where appropriate.
Business activities may require flexibility to work additional hours.
