Original job description

Champion Shavings is seeking an energetic, outgoing, confident, and highly motivated Sales Executive to join our growing team.

This is a people-focused sales role for someone who genuinely enjoys meeting new people, starting conversations, building relationships, and developing new business. We are looking for someone with a strong personality, a positive attitude, and the confidence to pick up the phone, walk into a business, attend an industry event, and comfortably introduce themselves to prospective customers.

Champion Shavings is a leading supplier of premium wood shavings and animal bedding products, serving customers across Canada and the United States. We own and operate four manufacturing facilities across Canada and the U.S., giving us a strong production and distribution footprint to support customers in multiple markets. Our customers include horse shows, equestrian facilities, feed and farm supply stores, private farms, distributors, and other agricultural businesses.

The primary focus of this position is finding, developing, and converting new customers while building long-term relationships that support the continued growth of our company. In addition to base salary, this position includes performance-based bonus compensation designed to reward successful new business development and sales growth.

Responsibilities

Actively identify and pursue new business opportunities throughout Canada and the United States.
Prospect through telephone outreach, email, networking, referrals, industry contacts, customer visits, horse shows, and trade events.
Confidently introduce Champion Shavings and our products to prospective customers.
Build rapport quickly and develop strong relationships with customers and industry contacts.
Maintain a consistent pipeline of prospective customers and follow opportunities through to completion.
Understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
Prepare quotes, follow up on opportunities, negotiate pricing and terms within company guidelines, and close sales.
Develop relationships with horse shows, equestrian facilities, feed stores, farms, distributors, and other potential customers.
Attend selected trade shows, horse shows, industry events, customer meetings, and sales trips.
Work closely with customer service, operations, logistics, and management to successfully onboard new customers.
Maintain accurate records of leads, customer discussions, opportunities, and follow-up activities within the company's CRM system.
Monitor competitive activity and identify new markets and sales opportunities.
Provide regular updates on sales activity, pipeline development, and new customer opportunities.

The Person We Are Looking For

Personality and attitude are extremely important in this role.

The ideal candidate will be:

Energetic, outgoing, and personable
Confident speaking with new people and developing relationships
Comfortable making cold calls and approaching prospective customers
Naturally conversational and able to build rapport quickly
Positive, enthusiastic, and professional
Persistent without being overly aggressive
Comfortable attending events, networking, and representing the company
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Competitive and results-oriented
Organized and disciplined with follow-up
Comfortable asking for the sale and closing business
Practical, dependable, and willing to take initiative

We want someone who would rather pick up the phone and have a conversation than simply send another email.

Experience

Previous experience in B2B sales, business development, account development, agricultural sales, equestrian sales, or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience developing new customers is an asset.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong negotiation and closing abilities.
Experience using CRM software and standard Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of the equestrian, agricultural, farming, feed, or animal bedding industries would be considered a significant asset.
A valid driver's licence and passport, and the ability to travel within Canada and the United States, are required.

While previous sales experience is valuable, we are equally interested in finding the right personality. A highly motivated, outgoing individual with strong people skills and a desire to succeed may be considered even without extensive sales experience.

Travel

This position will involve periodic travel to meet customers, develop new accounts, attend horse shows and trade events, and pursue new business opportunities.

Overnight travel is expected to be approximately up to 12 trips annually, some of which may have you away for a week or longer, and will be within Canada and the United States.

Applicants must be willing and able to travel internationally when required.

Work Location

This is an in-office position based at the Champion Shavings office in Mono, Ontario, near Orangeville.

Compensation

Champion Shavings offers a competitive base salary based on experience, along with performance-based bonus compensation.

The bonus program is intended to reward:

New customers brought into the company
Profitable new sales growth
Achievement of agreed sales targets
Continued development of new markets and customer relationships

Strong performers will have the opportunity to earn meaningfully above their base salary through the bonus program.

Why Join Champion Shavings?

Champion Shavings is a growing Canadian company with an established customer base, four manufacturing facilities across Canada and the United States, and significant opportunities for continued expansion.

This position gives you the opportunity to directly contribute to that growth by finding new customers, opening new markets, and developing relationships that can last for years.

If you are someone who is energetic, outgoing, enjoys talking to people, likes being on the road from time to time, and gets satisfaction from turning a new introduction into a customer, we would like to hear from you.

Benefits:

Casual dress
Dental care
Extended health care
Flexible schedule
Life insurance
On-site parking
Paid time off
Vision care
Work from home
Work Location: In person
