About This Opportunity:

The Controller is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for CPA Ontario. We're looking for a Controller who thrives on turning financial data into meaningful insight and who takes pride in maintaining a strong, reliable accounting function. Reporting to the Director, Finance, you'll play a key role in financial reporting, audits, investment accounting, cash flow management, and continuous improvement across the finance function. This is an opportunity to lead a talented team, influence financial decision-making, and make a meaningful impact on an organization that values accuracy, collaboration, and professional growth. If you enjoy diving into financial statements, balancing complex cash flows, and ensuring investment activity is reflected accurately and thoughtfully this is the role for you.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Own the month-end close process, including journal entry review, approvals, and financial reconciliations.
Develop and monitor cash flow reporting and forecasting to support financial planning and liquidity management.
Oversee investment accounting, including the recording and review of investment activity, realized and unrealized gains, and related financial reporting.
Coordinate and lead interim and year-end audits, serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
Prepare budgeted and forecast financial statements in partnership with finance stakeholders.
Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately and outstanding items are resolved promptly.
Oversee fixed asset accounting and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
Manage accounting activities for the organization's charitable foundation.
Prepare HST returns and other regulatory filings.
Coach and support a team of accountants, helping them grow their technical knowledge and professional capabilities.
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting through technology and automation.

To Be Successful You Need:

A post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting and a CPA designation.

A minimum of 4-6 years of prior work experience as an Accountant with demonstrated business and accounting experience.
Proven experience managing an accounting team and providing an engaging and productive work environment.
Knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) is required and understanding compliance requirements for not-for-profit entities is an asset.
Advanced skills in Excel and is required. VBA and Power BI experience is an asset.
Prior experience working with accounting systems is required.
Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and with employees at all levels.
Proven attention to accuracy and detail.
Knowledge of ASNPO (Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations ) would be an asset.
Experience with system implementation and process improvement is an asset.
Experience with database applications such as Salesforce is preferred.

Salary Range

The starting annual salary range for this position is between $103,700 – $129,600 per annum, based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
