With over 50 years of innovation and a commitment to excellence, we develop solutions that ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in diverse environments – from industrial plants and data centers to people’s homes. We deliver future-ready technologies, advanced engineering capabilities and local expertise backed by global standards. Our offering includes a leading portfolio from our trusted brands: Raychem, Tracer, Nuheat and Pyrotenax.
FABRICATION TECHNICIAN (TEMPORARY 3- 6 months)The Opportunity
The Fabrication Technician supports the Edmonton shop by assembling heat trace products and related hardware in a hands-on production environment. This role is built around practical shop work: building MI Junction Boxes, supporting label printing and packaging, helping manage work through the floor, and keeping quality, safety, and throughput on track.
Why This Role Exists Now
The shop is carrying a backlog of more than 4 months, well above the normal 6-week backlog. A large Kiewit order for MIJB-664-A-PR1 (QTY: 1500, approximately $300K) already exceeds the site’s typical annual production of roughly 5,000 MIJBs, and there is a strong possibility of another order for 2,500 similar boxes. This temporary role is intended to help the team catch up on demand and keep the year-end push moving.
What You Will Do
-
Assemble heat trace products in the Edmonton shop, including MI Junction Boxes and related hardware.
-
Drill, mount, wire, and physically build components as part of the assembly process.
-
Troubleshoot basic electrical circuits with minimal supervision.
-
Program EHT controllers according to customer request.
-
Print labels, assembly-level labels, and supporting documentation.
-
Update and maintain quality control records and shop production boards.
-
Create work packages for the fabrication floor, including shop details and relevant QA documents.
-
Use basic AutoCAD to create drawings for fabrication products.
-
Handle material flow and basic material handling tasks as needed to keep work moving.
-
Follow shop controls, policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times.
-
Support certification label creation and related documentation using basic electrical knowledge.
What We Need
-
Comfortable assembling parts and putting things together in a hands-on shop environment.
-
Finger dexterity and steady manual assembly ability.
-
Ability to use a cordless drill and other simple hand tools.
-
Ability to read basic shop schematics, general layouts, and electrical drawings.
-
Ability to use computers to print labels and related shop documents.
-
Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude.
-
Comfort working on repetitive builds with attention to detail.
-
Ability to manage light physical handling, including lifting and moving items of roughly 10 to 25 pounds.
-
Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow shop procedures.
Nice-to-Have Experience
-
Prior fabrication or assembly experience.
-
Experience with electrical components such as transformers, relays, or PLCs.
-
Experience troubleshooting basic electrical circuits.
-
Ability to visualize component assemblies or physical layouts from drawings.
-
Experience with AutoCAD.
-
Comfort building from design documents and BOMs.
-
Experience scoping work packages or assembling client-facing build details.
-
Someone with broader experience who could stay long term.
Team, Schedule, and Work Environment
The role reports to Michael Roeseler. The immediate team includes two regular employees who will show the new hire what to do and support onboarding on the floor.
This role is onsite in Edmonton. Overtime is expected, including weekends, especially during the year-end push. The current schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Friday, 7:00 AM to 11:00am.
