You are a hands-on, self-directed engineering professional based in Fort McMurray who is comfortable working in an active industrial environment and wants to build a long-term career with Chemelex. You bring practical field experience, strong electrical and instrumentation knowledge, and the ability to turn field conditions and client needs into accurate, workable design solutions.
This role is located at the Syncrude site in Fort McMurray and is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the work - completing field checks, working directly with clients and site stakeholders, preparing design deliverables, and independently driving a high volume of technical tasks through completion. You are organized, task-oriented, comfortable making progress without close supervision, and know when to engage the broader team for support.
You will join an experienced Fort McMurray team with strong site tenure and deep technical knowledge. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to learn from that experience, build deeper capability in electrical heat tracing and industrial design work, and grow with Chemelex as additional projects and development continue across the territory.

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:
As a Field Engineer - Syncrude, you will play a pivotal role in crafting world-class engineering projects. You will provide leadership and direction, ensuring that our initiatives are both innovative and flawlessly completed. Reporting to the site Project Manager, responsibilities will include:
- APEGA stamp EHT Drawing EHT packages and written scope of work, in accordance with site specifications, Chemelex standards, and external agencies such as CSA, CEC, etc. Maintain good standing with Chemelex Permit Holder and APEGA at all times.
- Supervise and lead onsite and offsite Project Engineers/Designers and Technologists in work, site priorities, safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Primary main Site Engineering point of contact for the team. Manage all client requests and RFIs; quantify the request and ensure the task is accurately completed or accepted by another Project Engineer for execution.
You have:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, technical degree (engineering) preferred. Heavy emphasis in construction or electrical engineering.
- Previous experience in or with:
- 4+ years of Engineering
- Project engineering or a related industrial construction function.
- Exposure in the petrochemical or energy industries with exposure to Heat Tracing technology.
- Fort McMurray resident
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to present and influence views in a clear and compelling manner
- Knowledge of the engineering, maintenance and/or operations experience at a petrochemical facility or industrial site.
- Microsoft Office and reporting/scheduling software (P6, Microsoft Project, Access, etc.)
