This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required.

About the Chimo Solo Program

The Chimo Solo Program (Supported Independent Living) provides young people with the guidance, resources, and opportunities they need to develop essential life skills and successfully transition toward independent living.

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, and resourceful Solo Coordinator who is passionate about empowering youth to achieve their goals and become confident, self-sufficient members of their communities.

The successful candidate will provide individualized, youth-centered support, advocacy, guidance, and practical skill development to help young people build the knowledge, confidence, and independence needed to navigate adulthood successfully.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build positive, supportive, and trusting relationships with youth through consistent one-on-one engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with youth to identify personal goals and develop realistic action plans.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, coaching, and encouragement to strengthen independent living skills.
  • Support youth in recognizing their strengths, building confidence, and developing greater self-sufficiency.
  • Connect youth with appropriate community resources, services, and natural supports.
  • Assist youth in navigating complex systems, including housing, employment, education, healthcare, and government services.
  • Advocate alongside youth while encouraging and developing their ability to advocate for themselves.
  • Collaborate with Children's Services, community partners, and other members of the youth's support network.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, progress notes, and required program records.
  • Participate as an active and collaborative member of the Solo team.

Areas of Support

Solo Coordinators provide individualized support based on each young person's goals, strengths, circumstances, and needs. Areas of support include:

  • Mental Health and Addiction: Connecting youth with appropriate mental health resources, treatment options, crisis supports, and community services.
  • Housing and Independent Living: Supporting youth with housing searches, applications, lease agreements, landlord communication, utility setup, apartment setup, and the skills needed to maintain stable housing.
  • Financial Literacy: Supporting youth in developing budgeting, banking, saving, tax preparation, bill payment, and responsible money management skills.
  • Education and Employment: Assisting with job searches, resume development, interview preparation, school applications, educational planning, and accessing funding opportunities.
  • Employment Readiness and Job Maintenance: Helping youth develop workplace skills, understand employer expectations, navigate workplace challenges, and maintain employment.
  • Community Connections: Connecting youth with food security resources, healthcare, recreation, cultural opportunities, crisis supports, and other community-based services.
  • Daily Living Skills: Developing practical skills related to cooking, nutrition, meal planning, budget-conscious shopping, household management, and maintaining a safe and healthy home.
  • Self-Care and Healthy Relationships: Encouraging self-care, emotional wellness, effective communication, interpersonal skills, healthy boundaries, and positive relationships.
  • Pregnant and Parenting Youth: Connecting young parents with appropriate resources and supporting them in developing the skills and confidence needed to balance parenting and independent living.
  • Cultural Connections: Supporting youth in accessing cultural resources, activities, ceremonies, and community connections that strengthen identity and belonging.

Education, Qualifications and Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree or diploma in a Human Services-related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth and Children's Services.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people in achieving their goals and becoming successful, self-sufficient adults in their communities.
  • The ability to establish positive, respectful, and youth-centered working relationships.
  • Knowledge of and experience accessing community resources, programs, and support services.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong computer, written communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

  • A clean three (3)-year driving abstract.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of continuous automobile insurance history with no at-fault claims.
  • Personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $2 million in liability coverage, including business use.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check and Children's Services Intervention Record Check, both issued within the last six (6) months.

What We Offer

We believe in supporting the people who make a difference every day. As a member of our team, you'll enjoy:

  • A supportive team of skilled and passionate professionals dedicated to helping children, youth, and families reach their greatest potential.
  • 15 days of paid vacation per year.
  • 10 days of paid sick and wellness leave per year.
  • Comprehensive health benefits following successful completion of the three (3)-month probationary period.
