Original job description

We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

What you'll be doing

Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development (ES&CD) plays a key role in maximizing the value of CIBC’s portfolio of businesses. The group identifies, assesses, and executes strategic initiatives and transactions, including organic growth initiatives, acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, and joint ventures. ES&CD works in collaboration with the bank’s business units and functional groups to identify opportunities for growth and to increase the value of CIBC’s businesses. As a member of the team, you'll support the development and implementation of business strategies and initiatives, and you'll help execute transactions that enable CIBC to deliver on its strategic priorities and goals. You will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, financial modelling, research, presentation preparation and project management support. You'll also be part of a Corporate Development team that manages a portfolio of direct equity and fund investments.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you'll succeed

Business Strategy – Support members of the ES&CD team in the development of corporate and business strategies with supporting initiatives and plans to enable CIBC to deliver on its mandate, goals and objectives. Prepare presentations for internal clients that include CIBC’s Group Executive Leadership Team and its Board of Directors.
Financial Analysis - Prepare financial models, in-depth valuation, and other financial analysis to assess the feasibility of potential strategic opportunities and transactions, which may include discounted cash flow, comparable company and precedent transaction analysis.
Research and Due Diligence – Perform research to evaluate potential opportunities and ensure ES&CD has robust competitive intelligence and strong awareness of trends, industry developments, client needs and regulatory changes. Assist with due diligence and project management on transactions and strategic initiatives.

Who you are

You have a degree in a finance-related field (e.g., business, finance or accounting); professional designations (e.g., CPA, CFA) are preferred.
You can demonstrate a year or more of experience in corporate development, management consulting, investment banking, transaction services, or business valuation. In addition, you have high proficiency using Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint) to perform analysis, communicate insights, and inform decisions.
You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems, and making sense of information. You're confident in your ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way.
You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships, and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.
You look beyond the moment. You make decisions and take actions that will make a difference today and tomorrow. You proactively seek new opportunities to define what's possible.
You live your values. You bring high standards, genuine care to your relationships, and want to grow with an employer that shares your values and brings out your best.

What CIBC Offers

At CIBC, your goals are a priority. We start with your strengths and ambitions as an employee and strive to create opportunities to tap into your potential. We aspire to give you a career, rather than just a paycheck.

We work to recognize you in meaningful, personalized ways including a competitive salary, incentive pay, banking benefits, a benefits program*, defined benefit pension plan*, an employee share purchase plan, a vacation offering, wellbeing support, and MomentMakers, our social, points-based recognition program.
Our spaces and technological toolkit will make it simple to bring together great minds to create innovative solutions that make a difference for our clients.
We cultivate a culture where you can express your ambition through initiatives like Purpose Day; a paid day off dedicated for you to use to invest in your growth and development.

*Subject to plan and program terms and conditions
