What You’ll Be Doing

CIBC Entertainment Banking provides advisory services and tailored financial solutions to media and entertainment companies across North America. Our team is composed of specialized professionals with strong experience in senior lending to North American media and entertainment businesses. With a broad mandate, the team provides international industry coverage, leads or participates in a range of structured financing transactions, and supports an expanding portfolio of clients. We are focused on delivering creative financing solutions, strategic insights, and exceptional service through the full suite of CIBC’s product capabilities.

As an Associate, you will work closely with members of the Entertainment Banking team, both collaboratively and independently, to support a broad range of activities. These include preparing and assisting with the presentation of financing proposals to existing and prospective clients; supporting approved credit opportunities through credit memo preparation, negotiations, legal documentation review, and transaction closing; and contributing to the ongoing management of the existing loan portfolio. You will also partner with the Relationship team to strengthen your capabilities in business development, relationship management, and negotiation.

How You’ll Succeed

Client First – Participate in discussions with client management teams, including executive, finance, and operations leaders, to assess financing needs. Conduct thorough financial and non-financial analysis and evaluate the risks associated with credit proposals. Support the preparation of financing proposals, including structuring terms and conditions such as security, covenants, and pricing, to ensure risk is appropriately reflected and compensated. Draft recommendations for credit submissions and investment proposals for presentation to senior management, and assist with transaction due diligence.

Relationship Building – Build strong relationships with internal partners, external clients, and broader industry contacts to help generate referrals, identify business opportunities, and maintain awareness of market developments.

Collaboration – Work closely with your team to connect clients with the right opportunities and solutions. Help monitor and manage a portfolio of senior debt accounts, maintain relationships with borrowers and Relationship Managers, track account performance and sector trends, and contribute to ongoing risk assessment and reporting. Support the negotiation of financing terms and conditions.

Business Acumen – Apply a solid understanding of commercial lending, with exposure to specialized senior lending products such as acquisition financings, project and interim financings, and syndicated loans, as well as other core banking products and services. Bring an understanding of the business, legal, tax, banking, and regulatory environment that shapes client financial needs. Use strong written and verbal communication skills to present financial information clearly and effectively.

Who You Are

You hold a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

A graduate degree or professional financial designation, such as CPA, CBV, CFA, FRM, or CAIA, is considered an asset but is not required.

You have experience in a commercial credit and/or equity investment environment.

You understand lending principles, practices, and procedures, including credit assessment, structuring, and industry and competitive analysis.

You can demonstrate experience with financial modeling and accounting skills are considered an asset.

You have experience preparing proposals and making recommendations.

You are an effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.

You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
