What you'll be doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Direct Financial Services in Capital Markets. You’ll be at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, successfully delivering complex, enterprise-scale mobile projects involving multiple back-end systems. As a Back end Consultant, you’ll assemble, implement and maintain easy, flexible, and personalized solutions that enhance the client experience across both iOS and Android. You’ll lead the planning and strategy for the technical design, development and integration of these applications.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How You’ll Succeed

Lead API development following the right design patterns and best practices. Be good at coding complex system and business logic in an effective way. Be good at modern development concepts and processes, both understanding and practice.
Continuous Improvement - Be the advocate for continuous improvement in both process efficiency and effectiveness, as well as development best practices that ensure quality of work. Be able to bring a positive influence to the team you work with. Having the right understanding of modern technology and modern development culture is an asset.
Operational Efficiency - Lead next level support for operational activities. Be good at problem solving, troubleshooting and have sound understanding of performance tuning
Mentorship - Be able to coach junior developers in the team and provide technical guidance.

Who You Are

You can demonstrate 3 plus years of experience in Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring boot, Web Services (SOAP, JSON and RESTFul). Proven and solid hands-on experience of a minimum of 3+ years in Microservices and API development in an enterprise environment. 1+ years of experience in Cloud environments (Azure/AWS/GCP) and Containerization (OpenShift/Kubernetes). It is an asset if you have experience with banking application development.
You embrace change. You are passionate about being up to speed with technology trends. You'll continuously evolve your thinking and the way you work in order to deliver your best.
Your influence makes an impact. You are able to coach and provide technical guidance to junior developers in the team to help them to grow.
You’re digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies. You are always ready to learn new tools and trends.
You're driven by collective success. You know that collaboration can transform a good idea into a great one. You understand that the real success is success of the team not that of any individuals.
You live your values. You bring high standards, genuine care to your relationships, and want to grow with an employer that shares your values and brings out your best.

What CIBC Offers

At CIBC, your goals are a priority. We start with your strengths and ambitions as an employee and strive to create opportunities to tap into your potential. We aspire to give you a career, rather than just a paycheck.

We work to recognize you in meaningful, personalized ways including a competitive salary, incentive pay, banking benefits, a benefits program*, defined benefit pension plan*, an employee share purchase plan, a vacation offering, wellbeing support, and MomentMakers, our social, points-based recognition program.
Our spaces and technological toolkit will make it simple to bring together great minds to create innovative solutions that make a difference for our clients.
We cultivate a culture where you can express your ambition through initiatives like Purpose Day; a paid day off dedicated for you to use to invest in your growth and development.

*Subject to plan and program terms and conditions
