What you'll be doing

You'll join CIBC's Technology team and help build the applications and services that power secure, reliable, and client-focused digital experiences. As a Consultant, Java Back End Developer, you'll play a hands-on role in designing, developing, and implementing enterprise-scale Java-based solutions across a range of business and technology domains. You'll contribute deep technical expertise to back-end application development, systems integration, and modern engineering practices, while helping deliver scalable solutions on current and emerging platforms. In this role, you'll also support the evolution of our technology landscape, including cloud-based capabilities, and collaborate with partners across the organization to deliver high-quality outcomes.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

Design and development - Lead API design by analyzing business requirements and following high level design. Lead API development following the right design patterns and best practices. Be good at coding complex system and business logic in an effective way. Be good at modern development concepts and processes, both understanding and practice.
Continuous improvement - Be the advocate for continuous improvement in both processes and best practices. Firm believer in quality of work and high productivity. Be able to bring a positive influence to the team you work with. Having the right understanding of modern technology and modern development culture is an asset.
Operational efficiency - Lead next level support for operational activities. Be good at problem solving, troubleshooting and have sound understanding of performance tuning
Mentorship skills - Be able to coach junior developers in the team and provide technical guidance

Who you are

You can demonstrate experience in: Java/J2EE, Spring/Springboot, Web Services (SOAP, JSON and RESTFul). Proven and solid hands-on experiences in Microservices and API development in an enterprise environment. It is an asset if you are familiar with Agile methodologies and Cloud environments (Kubernetes, Azure/OCP or equivalent)
You embrace change. You are passionate about being up to speed with technology trends. You'll continuously evolve your thinking and the way you work in order to deliver your best.
Your influence makes an impact. You are able to coach and provide technical guidance to junior developers in the team to help them to grow.
You’re digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies. You are always ready to learn new tools and trends.
You're driven by collective success. You know that collaboration can transform a good idea into a great one. You understand that the real success is success of the team not that of any individuals.
Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.

At CIBC, we seek individuals who value innovation, collaboration and client service. This posting is for a role we regularly recruit for to support our talent pipeline. Apply to be considered for future opportunities.

What CIBC Offers

We work to recognize you in meaningful, personalized ways including a competitive salary, incentive pay, banking benefits, a benefits program*, defined benefit pension plan*, an employee share purchase plan, a vacation offering, wellbeing support, and MomentMakers, our social, points-based recognition program.
Our spaces and technological toolkit will make it simple to bring together great minds to create innovative solutions that make a difference for our clients.
We cultivate a culture where you can express your ambition through initiatives like Purpose Day; a paid day off dedicated for you to use to invest in your growth and development.

*Subject to plan and program terms and conditions
