Original job description

About the Role

We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

What you'll be doing

Our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) team within Operations helps turn high-value opportunities into practical solutions that improve how work gets done across the business. As the Director, AI Delivery, you'll lead the end-to-end delivery of a growing portfolio of AI and Generative AI initiatives, from opportunity identification and prioritization through implementation, adoption, and value realization. You'll lead and develop a team of data scientists while creating the structure, operating rhythm, and accountability needed to deliver consistently in a complex enterprise environment. Working closely with Operations leaders and cross-functional partners, you'll translate business problems into clear, well-scoped initiatives with measurable outcomes. You'll also manage competing priorities across the portfolio, remove barriers to progress, and help ensure solutions are successfully embedded into business workflows. Success in this role means building a delivery organization that scales effectively, delivers predictably, and creates measurable business impact.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How you'll succeed

Lead delivery excellence - Own the end-to-end delivery of the Operations AI portfolio, from intake and prioritization through development, production, adoption, and realized value. Create clear ownership, execution discipline, and accountability across initiatives.
Build trusted business partnerships - Partner closely with Operations leaders and teams to understand business needs, identify high-value AI opportunities, and shape a sustainable pipeline of use cases with clear outcomes and success measures.
Manage the portfolio - Continuously assess and prioritize concurrent AI initiatives based on business value, feasibility, capacity, dependencies, and evolving insights. Make pragmatic decisions on scope, sequencing, resourcing, and delivery approach to maintain momentum.
Navigate enterprise delivery - Drive initiatives forward with partners across data science, engineering, technology, risk, governance, and the business. Anticipate blockers and dependencies early, and work across the organization to resolve them.
Embed solutions for impact - Ensure AI solutions don't stop at production and are effectively adopted into business workflows to achieve intended outcomes. Create transparency into delivery progress, risks, capacity, portfolio health, and business value.
Develop your team - Lead, coach, and support a team of data scientists across multiple levels of experience. Help team members build ownership, strengthen stakeholder management, and increase delivery effectiveness over time.

Who you are

You are a caring and accountable leader. You have experience developing and leading teams responsible for delivering complex technology or AI initiatives. You create clarity and accountability while empowering talented people to take ownership of their work.
You can demonstrate experience in delivering Generative AI solutions in a business environment, portfolio delivery, and cross-functional execution across business and technology teams. It’s an asset if you also bring broader experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning delivery.
You give meaning to data. You understand enough about AI and Generative AI delivery to challenge assumptions, identify delivery risks, and work effectively with data scientists and engineers. You balance technical understanding with strong business judgment.
Your influence makes a difference. You're comfortable working directly with senior business leaders and building trusted relationships across diverse partner groups. You can challenge priorities, scope, and expectations in a constructive and effective way.
You act like an owner. You focus on business outcomes, adoption, and value realization rather than activity alone. You make thoughtful trade-offs, know when to accelerate or reshape work, and can stop initiatives that aren't delivering enough value.
Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.

What CIBC Offers

At CIBC, your goals are a priority. We start with your strengths and ambitions as an employee and strive to create opportunities to tap into your potential. We aspire to give you a career, rather than just a paycheck.

We work to recognize you in meaningful, personalized ways including a competitive salary, incentive pay, banking benefits, a benefits program*, defined benefit pension plan*, an employee share purchase plan, a vacation offering, wellbeing support, and MomentMakers, our social, points-based recognition program.
Our spaces and technological toolkit will make it simple to bring together great minds to create innovative solutions that make a difference for our clients.
We cultivate a culture where you can express your ambition through initiatives like Purpose Day; a paid day off dedicated for you to use to invest in your growth and development.
Subject to plan and program terms and conditions

What You Need To Know

CIBC is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all team members and clients feel like they belong. We seek applicants with a wide range of abilities and we provide an accessible candidate experience. If you need accommodation, please contact Mailbox.careers-carrieres@cibc.com
You need to be legally eligible to work at the location(s) specified above and, where applicable, must have a valid work or study permit.
We may ask you to complete an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests (such as simulation, coding, French proficiency, MS Office). Our goal for the application process is to get to know more about you, all that you have to offer, and give you the opportunity to learn more about us.
