What you'll be doing
Our AI team builds enterprise capabilities that support a wide range of users across the organization, from end users to technology teams and low-code or no-code builders. As a Principal Product Scaler – AI Engineering, you'll build the engineering foundation that helps us repeatedly deliver high-quality AI products safely, efficiently, and at scale. You'll architect and develop the reusable components, software development kits, testing frameworks, and delivery patterns that move us from individual implementations to a mature product engineering model. You'll establish the standards for how AI products are designed, built, tested, packaged, released, and monitored in production. Working closely with data scientists, engineers, and technology partners, you'll help turn strong prototypes into reliable enterprise products while strengthening the team's overall engineering capability.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.
How you'll succeed
- Build scalable engineering foundations - Design and develop software development kits, libraries, reusable components, templates, and reference implementations that accelerate delivery across the AI portfolio and reduce repeated effort across teams.
- Establish engineering excellence - Define and implement standards for code structure, testing, code review, versioning, packaging, documentation, release management, and production readiness for AI and Generative AI products.
- Advance AI quality and reliability - Create automated testing, evaluation, regression, monitoring, and observability patterns that support both traditional software quality and the unique behavior of probabilistic AI systems.
- Drive efficient delivery - Establish continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) patterns, quality gates, and repeatable workflows that help teams move from experiment to production with greater speed and consistency.
- Enable adoption across teams - Design interfaces and developer experiences that make enterprise AI capabilities easy to consume for technology teams, other AI teams, and low-code or no-code solution builders.
- Elevate team capability - Review architecture and code for critical products, coach AI practitioners on engineering best practices, and help the team adopt effective agentic development workflows, tooling, and guardrails.
Who you are
- You are a hands-on senior engineering leader. You have experience operating at a Staff, Principal, Lead Engineer, or equivalent level, and you enjoy both designing systems and writing production-quality code.
- You can demonstrate experience in system design, application programming interface (API) and software development kit (SDK) design, testing, CI/CD, versioning, observability, and production operations. It’s an asset if you have built platforms, frameworks, developer tooling, or reusable services used by multiple teams.
- You give meaning to data. You understand the engineering challenges of taking AI and Generative AI solutions from experimentation into production, and you know that quality for AI systems requires more than traditional unit testing.
- You look beyond the moment. You're excited by the opportunity to shape how agentic software development evolves, including workflows, repository design, testing approaches, review practices, context management, and governance for increasingly autonomous delivery.
- You're motivated by collective success. You influence engineers, data scientists, technology partners, and leaders through strong partnership, sound judgment, and a commitment to raising the capability of the broader organization.
- You act like an owner. You naturally identify repeated patterns, remove friction from the development lifecycle, and build practical solutions that help teams deliver faster, more safely, and with greater consistency.
- Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
