Original job description

We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com

What you’ll be doing

The CIBC Optimization & Process Engineering (O&PE) department is made up of cross-functional teams, each with distinct mandates and core capabilities. These teams include Process Engineering (PE), Intelligent Process Solutions (IPS), and End-to-End Optimization (E2E), all of which are seeking co-op students to support ongoing efforts to enhance the delivery of products and services to our clients. As a member of one of these teams, you will collaborate in a team setting and focus on activities such as data collection, research, and analysis to assist in the design, testing, and implementation of organizational and process improvements.

Note: All applicants will be considered for all three teams. Candidates are encouraged to state their team preferences within their application and/or interview; however, allocation will ultimately be made based on business needs.

PE Team: You will be responsible for supporting process improvement initiatives by applying tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Project Management. You’ll be part of a team that acts as internal consultants, partnering with stakeholders across the business to enhance operational efficiency in all areas.

IPS Team: You will use your analytical skills to measure how well existing automations are performing and driving value by identifying opportunities to improve current processes through data-driven insights. Along the way, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to innovative Low-Code/No-Code tools.

E2E Team: You will be responsible for supporting end-to-end analysis to help optimize business processes and improve overall organizational performance through Low/No-Tech enhancements. You’ll be part of a team dedicated to identifying and implementing practical solutions that quickly streamline operations across the organization.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

Important information

Please note, we have multiple positions available under this posting, and you may be considered by more than one hiring team.

We may ask you to complete an attribute-based assessment. Our goal for the application process is to get to know more about you, all that you have to offer, and give you the opportunity to learn more about us.
Eligible candidates must be in their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies in a STEM program at a Canadian university and must be able to participate in a 16-month co-op term. However, you do not need to be in a registered Co-Op program to be considered for a role.
Please include your resume (no more than 2 pages), a cover letter (no more than 1 page), and your most recent unofficial transcript with your application. These should all be uploaded into the Resume section of the application as one pdf document.

How you’ll succeed

Process improvement - Assess current business processes and recommend improvements to reduce costs and error rates, improve the client experience, and decrease cycle time.
Process mapping and analysis - Document current-state processes, conduct detailed process analysis, and design future-state process and client journey flows using Microsoft Visio and other process mapping tools.
Collaboration - Partner with team members and stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities, support solution design, and help implement enhancements.
Project support - Define project requirements and prepare project summaries, including post-implementation reviews and findings from operations centre visits and other data-gathering activities.
Communication and reporting - Use Microsoft Office tools to prepare clear recommendations, plans, and results for management presentations and reporting.
Data and technology - Conduct data collection, time studies, and analysis using statistical techniques and tools such as Python, VBA, Power Query, and Power BI, while applying AI concepts to improve processes and personal productivity.
