What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be joining the Banking Centre Application Development team at CIBC, supporting our frontline business and the critical applications that enable exceptional client and employee experiences. As a Solution Designer, you’ll lead technical design and delivery, support technology strategy and roadmap development, and help modernize and maintain core Banking Centre applications. You’ll design solutions for business partners that may span multiple platforms, working closely with technology teams across CIBC to deliver integrated, enterprise-scale outcomes. In this role, you’ll translate business needs into effective technical solutions, guide delivery for complex initiatives, and help shape the future of our application landscape. You’ll also play an important role in advancing innovation by identifying opportunities to improve processes, delivery practices, and solution quality.

How You’ll Succeed
- Solution Design & Delivery - Lead complex solution design activities by translating business requirements into scalable system and application designs aligned to CIBC’s technology roadmap. Design and document technical functionality, infrastructure, interfaces, and integrations to support effective delivery.
- Technology Strategy & Innovation - Contribute to technology roadmaps that support the bank’s vision, strategy, and business objectives. Develop innovative, cost-effective solutions that improve operational efficiency, encourage continuous improvement, and strengthen platform consistency.
- Leadership & Enablement - Guide the team in adopting modern practices and technologies, including the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence (AI), to improve processes, deliverables, and overall effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Act as the solution design lead by facilitating design review sessions, engaging stakeholders across teams, and ensuring solutions align with business requirements and architectural direction.
- Coaching & Knowledge Sharing - Support and mentor junior designers and developers through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and practical problem-solving to help build team capability.
Who You Are
- You have deep technical experience. You bring 10+ years of experience designing large-scale enterprise applications, ideally using technologies such as Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and JavaScript. You have a strong ability to assess technical information and develop solutions that meet business needs while improving operational effectiveness.
- You have strong architecture and integration expertise. You have hands-on experience with microservices architecture, cloud-native design, and integration patterns, along with strong knowledge of standards such as OAuth. You’re also experienced with Java/Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Spring, Spring Boot, web services including Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), Representational State Transfer (RESTful) services, event messaging, and API gateways. Knowledge about Microsoft desktop environment is a plus.
- You’re skilled in modern engineering practices. You have working knowledge of tools and concepts such as GitHub, Microsoft Azure, Docker, cloud development, security principles, Agile delivery, and DevOps. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and cloud environments such as Kubernetes, Azure, Red Hat OpenShift (OCP), or equivalent platforms is considered an asset.
