Ciena’s High-Speed Photonic Component validation team contributes to the development and qualification of advanced optical components used in high-performance networking products. This role defines test methodologies and metrology approaches, validates component performance, analyzes results, and provides technical feedback to design and product teams. The position works across photonic product, chip design, validation, and internal R&D groups in a state-of-the-art optical engineering environment.

How you will make an impact:

Develop an understanding of Ciena’s integrated photonic components and apply that knowledge to innovative test methodologies.
Collaborate with photonic product, chip design, and validation teams to develop and implement test solutions for optical components and related products.
Define, execute, and improve optical and electro-optical test plans, including measurement setup, calibration, data collection, and result interpretation.
Analyze test data, summarize performance trends, and provide technical feedback to design and product teams.
Monitor, document, and communicate progress, risks, and potential issues that could affect product functionality, quality, or project timelines.

The must haves:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or a related discipline.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and build working relationships.
Organizational skills, attention to detail, technical curiosity, initiative, and a desire to solve problems and innovate.
Ability to communicate clearly, proactively, and constructively in written and spoken communication.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French and English.

Nice to haves:

Experience: Relevant experience with optical components gained through internships, co-op placements, academic laboratories, research projects, or previous industry experience.
Education: Graduate studies in a relevant field.
Experience or academic exposure in one or more of the following areas: high-speed photodiodes, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, integrated photonics, optical fiber theory, optical return loss, polarization, mode-field diameter, guided optics, optical instrumentation, metrology, calibration, measurement uncertainty, statistical analysis, data fitting, and performance prediction.
Utilization of MATLAB and/or Python; experience with JMP or other statistical analysis tools is also beneficial.

The annual pay range for this position is: $55,700 - 88,900 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. Expérience ou connaissances acquises dans le cadre d’études dans un ou plusieurs des domaines suivants : photodiodes haute vitesse, interféromètres Mach-Zehnder, photonique intégrée, théorie des fibres optiques, pertes de retour optique, polarisation, diamètre du champ de mode, optique guidée, instrumentation optique, métrologie, étalonnage, incertitude de mesure, analyse statistique, ajustement de données et prédiction des performances.
