As an Electrical - Distribution Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team in Regina, SK and will be involved in a range of projects and tasks related to electrical utility distribution infrastructure. They may also support emerging projects in other areas such as telecommunications, industrial electrical, substations, and renewable energy.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

Help perform design tasks for projects such as pole line analysis (PLA) for telecommunication and electric utility poles
Support the development of design and construction standards for various distribution and transmission applications
Assist in the preparation of calculations, drawings, construction and work packages and other project base deliverables
Assist in the preparation of technical inputs for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates
Communicate with client stakeholders for various aspects of the project, including regular communication about project progress
Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing assets condition and prepare site survey reports
Help ensure design work conforms to all applicable national codes and client standards
Utilize client based geographic information systems (GIS) and other records for data collection during the design process; produce bill of material and enter material acquisition requests in the GIS
Coordinate with utility companies, all levels of government agencies, municipalities, and other companies and institutions
Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on project requirements and other job functions as assigned

Qualifications

Profile

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or civil engineering, from a recognized institution
Experience with AutoCAD (asset)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure, independently and in a team setting
Client focused, detail oriented, eager to learn and motivated with strong problem solving and multitasking ability
Excellent skills with the Microsoft 365 platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driving license or equivalent from another province is required
Experience with electric utility distribution or transmission standards (asset)
Experience working with PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, Pull Planner, CYME or other utility software (asset)
Working knowledge of a GIS (Graphical Information System) such as ArcGIS, GE SmallWorld, or similar (asset)
