Job Description

The Operational Solutions and Technologies team is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that enhance the resilience, efficiency, and sustainability of critical infrastructure, systems, and engineering projects. Leveraging expertise in cybersecurity, telecommunications, IT/OT convergence, intelligent automation, software and systems engineering, and systems integration, the team develops resilient, scalable, and optimized solutions that ensure the long-term sustainability of infrastructure throughout its lifecycle. Join us and immerse yourself in a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative environment where you’ll make a real impact. Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow and engineer a better world!

CIMA+ offices in Western Canada are on a strong growth trajectory, creating opportunities to contribute to exciting and complex projects, develop new skills, take on new challenges, and advance your career within the organization.

As a Senior Telecom Engineer, you will play a key technical leadership role in the delivery of mission-critical telecommunications systems across a variety of projects for CIMA+’s key clients. Our telecommunications team works with industrial and public-sector clients across power utilities, energy, transportation, telecommunications carriers, and other critical infrastructure sectors.

You will lead and contribute to system architecture, design, and implementation; coordinate technical interfaces with other engineering disciplines; provide technical guidance to project teams; and work directly with clients to develop practical, reliable, and resilient telecommunications solutions across a broad range of wired and wireless applications.

If you value diversity in projects and technical challenges, this position is for you. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of our offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to telecommunications engineering work packages, system architecture and detailed design for complex projects.
Develop design criteria, network architectures, schematics, block diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and other engineering deliverables.
Prepare and review technical specifications, design reports, calculations, bills of materials, inspection and testing procedures, and procurement documentation.
Lead or participate in technical design reviews and evaluate technology options, equipment selections and system performance requirements.
Coordinate telecommunications interfaces with protection and control, SCADA/automation, cybersecurity, electrical, civil/structural and other engineering disciplines.
Engage directly with clients to define requirements, present recommendations, resolve technical issues, and support project decision-making.
Prepare project scopes, proposals, work plans, estimates, schedules and budgets, and support business development activities.
Provide technical guidance, review and mentoring to Engineers, EITs, technical professionals and designers.
Support procurement, vendor reviews, FAT/SAT, installation, testing, commissioning and field activities, including responses to site RFIs and preparation of record documentation.
Act as technical lead and, where assigned and appropriately registered, take professional responsibility for engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for registration with the applicable provincial engineering regulator.
Minimum 10 years of relevant telecommunications engineering experience, including experience leading the technical delivery of complex telecommunications projects.
Experience with networks supporting operationally critical or mission-critical applications, including design considerations across OSI Layers 1 to 4.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence

Technical Experience

Experience across several of the following technologies is expected; broad experience across mission-critical operational telecommunications is preferred.

Assets

Experience with electric utility telecommunications, including teleprotection, OPGW/fibre systems, PLC/HVE and substation communications.
Experience with control and automation systems such as SCADA, RTUs, PLCs and IEC 61850.
Knowledge of IT/OT convergence, OT cybersecurity principles and critical infrastructure environments.
Knowledge of IP/MPLS, QoS mechanisms and traffic engineering principles.
