Unleash your engineering talents at CIMA+ as a Transmission Lines Engineer. In this fulfilling position, you'll leverage your credentials as a professional engineer to drive innovation. This team is working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in Canada.

The role is hybrid (2 days a week in the office) and can be based anywhere in Canada.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop safe engineering solutions through design, problem analysis, and interpreting specifications for medium complexity utilities projects.
Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets by proposing plan changes, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules
Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, exercising judgment in information selection, and recommending safe engineering designs
Contribute to CIMA+'s engineering practices by conducting studies, developing technical standards, exercising judgment in information evaluation, recommending designs, and providing guidance to other engineers
Deliver exceptional customer service by defining engineering scope with clients, establishing design criteria, approving technical documentation, and assessing/reporting progress against standards and objectives for safe, quality, budget-compliant, and timely project completion
Design overhead line structures and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment
Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA+’s practices
Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities
Provide signed and sealed engineering deliverables as the Professional of Record in accordance with the requirements of the applicable provincial engineering regulator and CIMA+’s practices.
Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required
Perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for structures associated with transmission underground cables (including potheads, concrete vaults, cable duct banks) and transmission submarine cables (including terminations and potheads)
Apply loads, design criteria, seismic analysis per regulatory and industry standards, considering associated civil, mechanical, electrical systems like foundations, lightning protection, conductors, and hardware

Qualifications

University Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience and a history of working in Transmission projects.
Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in ON or another province of Canada
Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Excellent communication abilities in English – written and verbal
Experience in design tasks including scope, schedule and cost control
Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence

Responsibilities

Design and analyze overhead transmission lines and related underground and submarine cable structures for utility projects, while preparing engineering documentation and signed, sealed deliverables as the Professional of Record. Coordinate design scope, schedule, and cost; resolve technical and field issues; support construction and project delivery; and provide technical guidance to colleagues and clients.

Requirements

A degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience, and at least five years of experience on transmission projects are required. Candidates must be registered with a Canadian provincial engineering association and have proficiency with design and analysis software, CAD systems, drawing standards, Microsoft Office, and written and verbal English communication.
