Original job description

Meet Circuit Stream

Where big futures start. Circuit Stream is building the defining youth enrichment brand in North America. We create pre-university summer camps that give young people the chance to explore what they might want to do next, from AI, engineering, medicine and business to psychology, sports, outdoor adventure and more. Through partnerships with leading universities and industry experts, we turn those interests into hands-on experiences that build skills, confidence, and open doors to future opportunities. We have big ambitions to serve over 10,000+ students a year. Getting there means moving quickly, trying new things, learning from what works, and giving great people real ownership. If you’re ambitious about where your own career can go, and excited to help young people discover where theirs might lead, you’ll thrive here.

We’re looking for a 3D artist, animator, visual effects practitioner, educator, or Masters/PhD student who can make digital creation approachable for teenagers and create a classroom where students are excited to experiment, create, and bring their ideas to life.

Role Details

Delivery: In person at the University of British Columbia (Main Campus)

Teaching dates and hours: August 03 - 13, 2027 from 8:45am to 4:45 pm

Compensation: CAD 1,500 per week

Training: Required instructor training/onboarding when hired; additional 2-3 hours in June before courses begin.

Other: A criminal background check will be requested before working with youth learners.

Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll help students ages 13–17 explore the creative and technical process behind 3D animation and visual effects through hands-on projects, demonstrations, and guided practice. Students will learn the basics of modeling, rigging, materials, texturing, lighting, animation, compositing, motion tracking, cameras, and rendering. The curriculum, lesson resources, and activities are provided; your role is to make them engaging, accessible, and memorable while helping every student make progress toward a final animation or VFX scene.

What You'll Be Doing

Deliver Circuit Stream’s provided 3D Animation and Visual Effects curriculum with energy, clarity, and strong classroom facilitation.
Guide students through hands-on modeling, animation, lighting, compositing, and rendering activities while ensuring learners are meeting the course learning objectives.
Help students build creative confidence, solve technical problems, and connect course concepts to real careers in animation, film, game development, and visual effects.
Create an inclusive, positive classroom environment and use appropriate behavior-management techniques to reinforce expectations, rules, and safety requirements.
Supervise students during scheduled indoor and outdoor activities outside classroom instruction each day, while monitoring learner progress and communicating concerns or support needs to the Circuit Stream team.

What We're Looking For

You genuinely enjoy working with teenagers and know how to keep a group engaged, participating, and excited to create.
Professional, academic, freelance, or substantial project experience in 3D animation, visual effects, game art, motion design, digital media, or a closely related field.
A completed Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Animation, Visual Effects, Game Art, Digital Media, Film, Design OR Masters/PhD in progress. Equivalent industry or portfolio experience will also be considered.
Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain creative and technical concepts clearly and patiently to beginners.
Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, camp, or youth-program experience is strongly preferred.
You are dependable, prepared, receptive to feedback, and comfortable taking responsibility for student behavior and safety.

Who This Is For

Someone who gets energy from helping teenagers turn ideas into visual work and build confidence with creative technology.
A practical teacher who brings provided lessons to life through demonstrations, guided practice, feedback, and hands-on participation.
Someone who can be warm and encouraging while still setting clear boundaries and maintaining a focused, safe learning environment.
A patient, creative practitioner who is comfortable helping beginners troubleshoot software, iterate on their work, and learn through experimentation.
Someone who is available to teach on weekdays during the summer for all course dates listed.

Who This Is Not For

If you enjoy 3D art or animation but do not enjoy spending your day actively working with teenagers.
If your preferred teaching style is primarily lecture-based or demonstration-only, without giving students frequent opportunities to create and practice.
If you become frustrated when beginners need extra technical support, encouragement, or repeated explanation.
If you are uncomfortable enforcing classroom expectations, supervising students outside the classroom, or taking responsibility for safety.

What's In It For You

The opportunity to introduce teenagers to 3D animation, visual effects, and creative careers across film, games, and digital media.
A complete curriculum, lesson resources, activities, instructor training, and support from Circuit Stream’s Education team.
A community of instructors and educators to connect with and learn from.
A rewarding summer role where you can strengthen your teaching and mentorship skills while helping students create work they are proud to share.

Ready to Apply?

Apply with your resume and a short note answering two questions

Why do you enjoy teaching and working with teenagers?
What 3D animation, visual effects, or digital art concept would you be excited to make interesting and approachable for a teenager?

We’re committed to creating an inclusive and respectful workplace and learning environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are valued. What makes us different makes us stronger. If this sounds like a role where you could help students thrive, apply today.

By submitting your application, you consent to Circuit Stream contacting you by phone, text, or email.
