Original job description

Meet Circuit Stream

Where big futures start. Circuit Stream is building the defining youth enrichment brand in North America. We create pre-university summer camps that give young people the chance to explore what they might want to do next, from AI, engineering, medicine and business to psychology, sports, outdoor adventure and more. Through partnerships with leading universities and industry experts, we turn those interests into hands-on experiences that build skills, confidence, and open doors to future opportunities. We have big ambitions to serve over 10,000+ students a year. Getting there means moving quickly, trying new things, learning from what works, and giving great people real ownership. If you’re ambitious about where your own career can go, and excited to help young people discover where theirs might lead, you’ll thrive here.

We’re looking for a cybersecurity practitioner, educator, or Masters/PhD student who can bring ethical hacking to life for teenagers and create a classroom where students are excited to investigate, problem-solve, and learn.

Role Details

Delivery: In person at University of Calgary

Teaching dates and hours: August 9 - 13, 2027 from 8:45am to 4:45 pm

Compensation: CAD 1,650 per week

Training: Required instructor training/onboarding when hired; additional 2-3 hours in June before courses begin.

Other: A background check will be required before working with youth learners.

Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll introduce students ages 13–17 to cybersecurity and ethical hacking through hands-on activities, technical challenges, and project work. The curriculum, lesson resources, and activities are provided; your role is to make them engaging, accessible, and memorable while helping every student make progress.

What You’ll Be Doing

Deliver Circuit Stream’s provided Cyber-defender: Ethical Hacking curriculum with energy, clarity, and strong classroom facilitation.
Guide students through hands-on cybersecurity activities and projects, explain technical concepts in beginner-friendly ways, and ensure learners are meeting the course learning objectives.
Create an inclusive, positive classroom environment and use appropriate behavior-management techniques to reinforce expectations, rules, responsible technology use, and safety requirements.
Monitor student understanding, provide helpful feedback and support, and communicate concerns or learner needs to the Circuit Stream team.
Supervise students during scheduled indoor and outdoor activities outside classroom instruction each day, helping maintain engagement, appropriate behavior, and safety.

What We’re Looking For

You genuinely enjoy working with teenagers and know how to keep a group engaged, participating, and excited to learn.
Professional, academic, or substantial project experience in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, network security, or a related field.
A completed Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline OR current Cybersecurity or Information Systems Security Masters or PhD degree in progress.
Strong cybersecurity fundamentals and experience with tools used in the course, including VirtualBox, Kali Linux, Wireshark, and Metasploit.
Strong communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to discuss complex or sensitive topics clearly, responsibly, and at an age-appropriate level.
Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, facilitation, camp, or youth-program experience is strongly preferred.
You are dependable, prepared, receptive to feedback, and comfortable taking responsibility for student behavior, responsible technology use, and safety.

Who This Is For

Someone who gets energy from helping teenagers learn and is comfortable being active, visible, and engaged throughout the day.
A practical instructor who brings provided lessons to life through demonstrations, questions, encouragement, troubleshooting, and hands-on participation.
Someone who can be warm and approachable while still setting clear boundaries and maintaining a focused, safe learning environment.
A cybersecurity practitioner or grad student who can make topics like network traffic, vulnerabilities, security controls, and ethical hacking approachable for beginners.
Someone who is available to teach on weekdays during the summer for all course dates listed.

Who This Is Not For

If you enjoy cybersecurity but do not enjoy spending your day actively working with teenagers.
If your preferred teaching style is primarily lecture-based or you expect students to stay engaged without active facilitation.
If you become frustrated when beginners need extra explanation, technical troubleshooting, encouragement, or redirection.
If you are uncomfortable enforcing classroom expectations, responsible technology use, supervising students outside the classroom, or taking responsibility for safety.

What’s In It For You

The opportunity to introduce teenagers to cybersecurity and ethical hacking and help them explore future academic and career paths.
A complete curriculum, lesson resources, activities, instructor training, and support from Circuit Stream’s Education team.
A community of instructors and educators to connect with and learn from.
A rewarding summer role where you can strengthen your teaching and mentorship skills while making a visible impact on students.

Ready to Apply?

Apply with your resume and a short note answering two questions:

Why do you enjoy teaching and working with teenagers?
What cybersecurity or ethical hacking concept would you be excited to make interesting and understandable for a teenager?

We’re committed to creating an inclusive and respectful workplace and learning environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are valued. What makes us different makes us stronger. If this sounds like a role where you could help students thrive, apply today.

By submitting your application, you consent to Circuit Stream contacting you by phone, text, or email.
