You will design, develop, and implement scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, Kotlin, and MongoDB, applying modern engineering practices including Site Reliability Engineering principles and OpenTelemetry-based observability. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex technical challenges while mentoring other engineers and shaping how Citi's technology platforms serve global business needs.

Manage application data using MongoDB to support high-performing, reliable backend services.

Lead feasibility studies, cost estimates, and technical planning for new and revised application systems.

Analyze complex business and system processes against industry standards to recommend practical, scalable solutions.

Consult with business users and technology teams to translate requirements into effective programming solutions.

Implement security measures following deployment to protect system design and strengthen data integrity.

Operate independently as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior engineers and advising senior stakeholders.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

5 to 8 years of experience in software development, systems analysis, or applications programming.

Hands-on experience building backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and Kotlin.

Working knowledge of MongoDB and distributed microservices architecture.

Experience with modern engineering and DevOps practices, including Site Reliability Engineering principles and OpenTelemetry for observability.

Experience managing and delivering successful technology projects from concept to implementation.

Ability to manage competing deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or tooling support within engineering workflows.

What We Offer:

Join a technology team that builds large-scale, distributed systems supporting Citi's global operations, working alongside experienced engineers on platforms that process transactions at scale.

A hybrid schedule with three days in the office and two days working remotely.

Hands-on exposure to modern engineering tools, distributed systems design, and observability practices.

Collaboration with global technology teams on high-impact, large-scale platforms.

Access to learning and development resources to support continued technical growth.

Programs that support financial wellbeing and work-life balance.
