Original job description

Citi is looking for a Java Developer to join its technology organisation and play a hands-on role in building, enhancing, and integrating the applications that power financial services at global scale. In this intermediate-level position, you will design and deliver robust Java-based solutions across cloud-native environments, working across cross-functional teams to solve real engineering challenges. This is an opportunity to deepen your technical craft while contributing to systems that directly impact clients and internal stakeholders worldwide.

Responsibilities

Design and develop Java applications, enhancements, and system integrations that meet clearly defined technical and business requirements.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs using Spring frameworks, ensuring reliability, performance, and adherence to clean code principles.
Deploy and manage application workloads on cloud platforms using OpenShift and Kubernetes, applying modern build tooling such as Gradle and Maven.
Implement and support messaging and event-driven architectures using Kafka and MQ to enable scalable, real-time data flows.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, and monitor application health and performance using Grafana.
Analyse existing applications to identify vulnerabilities, conduct security testing, and implement effective debugging and resolution strategies.
Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, and end users to define system enhancements and recommend technically sound solutions.
Support and mentor junior developers, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to a high-performing engineering team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Proficiency in Java development with practical experience building production-grade applications and RESTful APIs using Spring.
Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, including Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB.
Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies including OpenShift, Kubernetes, and associated build and messaging tools.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including Jenkins for pipeline automation and Grafana for observability and monitoring.
Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery methodologies.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.

What We Offer

At Citi, you will work within a high-performing global technology organisation where engineering quality and delivery impact matter. Whether you are developing your technical skills or growing your career in financial services, this role offers the environment, support, and scale to help you do your best work.

Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility without losing team connection.
Access to structured learning and development resources to support your technical growth and career progression.
Exposure to complex, large-scale engineering challenges within a globally connected technology function.
Wellbeing support and work-life balance initiatives designed to sustain long-term performance and personal wellbeing.
Competitive financial benefits and a rewards package aligned to your contribution and experience level.
The opportunity to collaborate with talented engineering professionals across global teams working on meaningful financial technology.

Apply now to bring your Java engineering skills to one of the world's leading financial institutions and help build the technology that serves clients across the globe.
