Original job description

As a Senior Java Developer at Citi, you will design and build the microservices architecture behind global reference data solutions used by clients around the world. Working within a global engineering team, you will drive architecture decisions, adopt industry-leading development practices, and help modernize how Citi delivers secure, scalable applications. This is an opportunity to shape enterprise-grade systems at the center of Citi's technology transformation.

Responsibilities

Deliver end-to-end microservices solutions as a senior Java developer, from initial design through production deployment.
Shape the architecture of new microservices applications that power Citi's global reference data platform.
Partner with on-site and off-site engineering teams to coordinate delivery across the project lifecycle.
Champion industry-leading coding standards and software architecture practices across the engineering team.
Introduce secure, efficient development tools and practices that strengthen the quality of the codebase.
Mentor fellow engineers and share technical knowledge across teams to raise overall delivery capability.

Required Qualifications & Skills

8+ years of hands-on Java development experience, including Core Java 8 or higher (Citi currently runs on Java 17).
Hands-on experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Hibernate or JPA.
Hands-on experience designing and implementing REST APIs backed by relational databases and PL/SQL.
Working knowledge of messaging technologies such as JMS or Kafka.
Practical experience with at least one cloud platform, such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience building UI screens with Spring MVC, JSP, or JavaScript, and writing secure, well-tested code using jUnit and integration testing.
Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and familiarity with Maven or Gradle build tools.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

Experience with NoSQL databases in addition to relational database technologies.
Familiarity with GraphQL for API design.
Experience building single page applications using Angular or React.
Knowledge of Spring Batch, Spring Integration, or Apache Camel.
Experience with API gateway tools such as Apigee or API Connect, CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or uDeploy, and writing Unix/Linux bash scripts.

What We Offer

Join a global engineering team shaping the technology behind Citi's reference data platforms, with the autonomy to influence architecture decisions and the support to grow your career.

Work in a hybrid model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.
Take ownership of complex microservices architecture used by clients around the world.
Access ongoing learning and development opportunities to sharpen your technical expertise.
Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple locations on high-impact projects.
Benefit from programs supporting financial wellbeing, family needs, and work-life balance.

Apply now to help shape the next generation of Citi's microservices architecture.
