Original job description

Join Our Engineering Team at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre! Are you an ambitious Electrical Engineer looking to make a direct impact on large-scale infrastructure and sustainability projects? In this role, you will work closely with our Senior Electrical Engineer to support daily Operations and Maintenance while providing critical engineering oversight for ongoing facility initiatives.

From day one, you’ll deliver direct technical support to several high-profile projects shaping the future of the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC) - including the Landfill Gas (LFG) Control Building, the site-wide master power plan, major electrical power distribution and control equipment upgrades at the Integrated Processing & Transfer Facility (IPTF), and the implementation of a site-wide electronic document management system (EDMS). If you thrive in a collaborative environment where high-impact projects meet operational excellence, we want to hear from you.

What will you do?

  • Participate in plant expansion design reviews, define scope requirements, and provide ongoing electrical engineering support for capital projects across the EWMC site
  • Review tender, engineering, and construction packages - along with consultant-developed Professional Work Products (PWPs) - to ensure strict alignment with City of Edmonton (COE) design standards and applicable electrical codes
  • Support Project Managers through site visits, progress documentation, and RFI reviews; actively participate in electrical completion and system commissioning to verify design intent
  • Collaborate with Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers to identify, plan, and execute electrical equipment modifications, replacements, and rehabilitation initiatives
  • Review historical and current technical documents, classifying and organizing them according to established guidelines for integration into the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce procedures for EDMS document numbering, revision control, tracking, and progress reporting
  • Manage and update the project database and document naming/numbering systems, improving their integration into the Technical Services web portal
  • Partner with Senior Engineers and Operations staff to evaluate and introduce new technologies and resources aimed at boosting site production efficiency and process safety
  • Build and roll out digital tools - such as electronic forms and interactive dashboards - to streamline engineering workflows and operational reporting
  • Conduct root cause analyses on electrical distribution and control equipment failures, perform field verifications of existing infrastructure, and authenticate PWPs where qualified and required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering
  • Membership with APEGA as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • Minimum of 3 years years of progressively responsible experience in an industrial environment, including experience with electrical power distribution equipment and control systems, electrical studies, maintenance engineering and project delivery experience

  • Procurement & Contract Administration: Oversee project management, contract management, and the procurement of industrial electrical and control equipment
  • Construction, Operations & Maintenance: Direct the construction, commissioning, daily operation, and maintenance of industrial facilities and equipment
  • Quality & Process Control: Implement Management of Change (MOC) protocols to ensure operational safety and process efficiency
  • Alignment with our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ()
  • Commitment to embracing a culture of Equity, Diversity, Reconciliation and Inclusion
