Range of Pay: Group 5 - $24.42 to $28.77 per hour

Main Function
Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator and the day-to-day direction of the Leisure Program Supervisor, this position is responsible to design a ski or snowboard lesson format for children aged five (5) to twelve (12) years old that encourages safety and class participation, and to deliver the program.
Objectives
- Design and deliver high-quality ski or snowboard lessons that promote participant safety, skill development, and active engagement while adhering to CSIA/CASI standards and established program guidelines.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, accommodates varying skill levels, and achieves high levels of participant satisfaction.
- Support the effective delivery of programs by providing guidance to assisting instructors when required, maintaining accurate program records, ensuring equipment and activity areas are safe and properly prepared, and communicating program concerns to supervisor.
Duties
- Design and deliver programs that align with Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance (CSIA) or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) priorities.
- Perform proper techniques as to not cause injury or harm to any pupil in the class.
- Instruct at the appropriate level for each class.
- Be attentive and alert to the regards of all pupils in the class.
- May provide supervision and guidance to Program Instructors assisting with class delivery, as required.
- Maintain a clean/safe activity space and ensure that equipment is maintained and properly set up.
- Responsible for being aware of the facility policies in place at the program site.
- Inform immediate supervisor of any program issues, facility problems, and/or misconduct by a class participant.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure Program Evaluation Forms are distributed to participants.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the City’s Health and Safety policies and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Successful completion of secondary school (grade XII) education.
- For Skiing Programs; must possess Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance (CSIA) Level II.
- For Snowboarding Programs; must possess Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) Level II. Freestyle or Terrain Parks certification is an asset.
- Must be a certified instructor in good standing.
- Must hold current CPR and First Aid Certificate for designated positions.
Experience
- Minimum of two and one-half (2½) years of related experience skiing and/or snowboarding.
- Up to six (6) months of teaching experience.
Knowledge Of
- For Ski Instructor; familiarity with the CSIA Skier Development Program “Mini Viking”.
- For Snowboard Instructor; familiarity with the CASI “Quick Ride” Program.
- Best practices within areas of responsibility.
Abilities To
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
- Demonstrate participation in continuing education courses and workshops.
- Demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and goals of City’s programs.
Personal Suitability
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability in meeting job responsibilities.
Language
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- French verbal skills an asset.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.
Development opportunity range of pay: $19.19 to $22.46 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
