Original job description

The City of Miramichi is seeking a full-time System Administrator to work with the IT team. Reporting directly to the Manager of Information Technology, this position provides critical technical and system support to our city staff.

Reports To: Manager of Information Technology

Department: Corporate Services Department

Rate of Pay: $36.45, Wages and benefits in accordance with CUPE Local 3863 Collective Agreement.

Position Summary: This position is part of the team responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the Municipality’s computer network system.

Responsibilities:

· Install and maintain network servers, operating system, and other network equipment.

· Install and maintain computers, monitors, printers, scanners and other IT equipment.

· Performs basic systems security administration functions, including creating customer profiles and accounts

· Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response time to maintain operating efficiency

· Maintains system documentation and logs

· Performs systems administration functions for the City wide email system

· Administer secure links with public key encryption, anti-virus, user authentication and intrusion detection

· Provide monitoring and primary response and intervention for information technology related security incidents and violations

· Manage and support secure Virtual Private Networks (VPN)

· Document LAN network related policies and procedures including security

· Oversees IT budget.

· Research, test and evaluate vendor hardware and software products

· Keep current with new advancements in Information Technology, applicable laws and regulations

· Provide end user training and assistance where required

· Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

· High School diploma or equivalent supplemented with a diploma in networking technology or equivalent including additional courses required to maintain competency level.

· Qualified with MCSE and A+ Certification.

· Minimum of three years’ experience maintaining network computer systems, one (1) of which should be in an enterprise environment.
