Title Supervisor 1 - Construction Job Status Temporary Full Time Position Overview

The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks Department is seeking a temporary full-time Supervisor 1 – Construction for approximately one (1) year to provide field supervision and support the delivery of municipal water construction, maintenance and repair projects.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Section Manager of Utilities, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Supervisor 2 in the planning, coordination and assignment of construction and maintenance work performed by a small group of employees. This position will provide hands-on field supervision of municipal water construction and maintenance activities, including the maintenance, repair and construction of water systems and facilities, while coordinating and directing the work of truck drivers, equipment operators and external contractors. The successful candidate will monitor construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved plans, construction drawings, specifications, municipal standards and performance expectations.
Requirements
You will have completed Grade 12, with a minimum of 5 years of direct related experience in utilities construction and maintenance operations, including the methods, practices, procedures, materials, tools and equipment used in water and utilities construction, maintenance and operations. You will have demonstrated ability to supervise and direct the work of a small group of employees, coordinate resources, identify and resolve field issues, read construction drawings, prepare work records, and ensure safety procedures and quality standards are met. You will be proficient with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Hansen, or similar Financial and Asset Management systems, and have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. You must be able to deal effectively with the public and demonstrate teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. Certification in either Water Distribution or Waste water collection through the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) is considered an asset.
Compensation
$44.86 per hour
(2026 rates)
Hours of Work
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of 8 months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
