About the Role
Digital Transformation TCS of the City of Toronto is currently looking for a Systems Integrator 1 to join its award-winning Solution Development Services team. In this dynamic and fast-paced role, you will be a key member of a tight-knit, cross-functional team of technology professionals. We collaborate to build and support innovative web and mobile first solutions that deliver real value to our clients.
As a Systems Integrator 1, reporting to the Senior Systems Integrator, you will provide services across the application lifecycle, including business and system requirements analysis, application and integration design, database development, data modelling, coding, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, deployment preparation, production support, sustainment, and enhancement in a complex computing environment.
In this dynamic and technically diverse role, you will be a key member of a cross-functional team responsible for supporting critical Children's Services applications and integrations. You will work with business, application, database, infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams to maintain reliable data and document exchanges across different technologies.
The work includes supporting Oracle Forms and Reports applications, Oracle and PostgreSQL database solutions, application integrations, automation and deployment pipelines, system interfaces, and web application.
The role requires a combination of database, application integration, Oracle technology, DevOps, troubleshooting, and production support experience, as well as the ability to understand complex dependencies across applications, databases, file systems, web services, automation tools, and infrastructure components.
Major Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains business relationships with clients to discuss/assess clients needs.
- Prepares project charter, statements of work and project plans.
- Identifies risks and prepares action plans to mitigate.
- Conducts or leads team in delivery of projects or work packages.
- Liaises and co-ordinates with internal & external groups on accomplishment of deliverables.
- Prepares and presents status report and variance explanation for projects or work packages.
- Prepares findings & "Lessons Learned" from post-implementation project reviews.
- Assesses, analyzes, evaluates and recommends process & policy alternatives for projects & work packages.
- Redesigns business principles, processes, policies and standards by recommending best practices and improvements to current processes.
- Determines business requirements and builds consensus amongst clients.
- Prepares Business Plans, Gap Analysis, Logical Data Models and Design documents for proposed solutions that leverage information & technology as part of the solution.
- Provides input to Data Management teams on transformation of clients' business requirements.
- Recommends improvements to current methodology, process, standards, and policies.
- Assists staff in understanding of business processes and logic.
- Liaises with staff in development of test strategy, test cases & test scripts for system, performance, usability and acceptance testing of system solutions developed.
- Leads team to draft implementation & rollout strategies and plans.
- Conducts walk-through of deliverables to identify potential problems.
- Prepares training material and documentation for use by clients and staff.
- Conducts training for client and their staff.
- Collaborates with clients on "Go / No Go" cut-over decisions e.g. roll-outs.
Key Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in computer science, software engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Considerable experience in systems analysis, requirements analysis, application design, coding and unit testing, troubleshooting, and production deployment and support.
- Considerable experience in database technologies, application integration, and data exchange techniques, including SQL, Oracle Database, and PostgreSQL.
- Considerable experience in one or more of the following areas: Java development, Unix/Linux environments, Oracle Forms and Reports technologies, and DevOps/CI-CD practices.
- Experience in front-end development using HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, Node.js, and a front-end framework such as React.
- Experience in Agile software development and related collaboration tools such as Confluence and Jira.
You must also have:
- Excellent communication skills to prepare and present technical materials and to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective consulting relationships with clients and vendors.
- Teamwork skills to work with multidisciplinary staff in a project team setting.
- Knowledge of Oracle legacy technologies, such as Oracle Designer and Oracle Forms Builder, will be considered an asset.
- Technical knowledge of developing security components for web-based applications.
- Ability to prepare functional specifications, system documentation, and user documentation, and to provide consultation and training to users.
- Fundamental knowledge of establishing and maintaining appropriate technical programming and development environments.
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including application security best practices and authentication and authorization principles.
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of DevOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, and test automation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Time management and organizational skills to manage competing demands, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of developing, deploying, administering, and managing cloud-based solutions and platforms.
- Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other regulations and legislation that apply to the job duties.
