JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of the Safety, Compliance, Training and Development Service is to provide training and development, safety and compliance, and quality and continuous improvement of bus, para transit and light rail services. Services and programs include appropriate safety and job training for transit employees, and the compliance, development and implementation of safety standards to protect the general public.

Under the direction of the Program Manager, Training & Development, you are responsible for serving as the curriculum development specialist for Transit Training and Development, designing and developing curricula for all transit training and orientation programs for the Training and Development Unit. You: conduct comprehensive Training and Development needs assessments; develop departmental campaigns such as Safe Winter Driving and Double Decker Familiarization; develop and maintain lessons, handouts, workbooks, and multimedia presentations; evaluate training standards and procedures; consult with internal and external clients and stakeholders, such as the Corporate Claims Department, City Clerk and Solicitor Department, Diversity and Inclusion Branch, other transit properties; and participate on various work-related committees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma or university degree in Education, Organizational Development or other closely related academic field including course work in Curriculum Design and Adult Learning Theory.

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of adult education in a transit or operational environment. Experience should include 3 years as a relief or full time training instructor.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted CZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

Signing Authority under the MTO Driver Certification Program for certain positions

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of Departmental/Branch/Division mandate, programs, policies and guidelines
Knowledge of Training and Development programs/procedures for conventional transit, Para Transpo, maintenance personnel and rail operators
Knowledge of the operation of transit vehicles and related equipment
Knowledge of the issues/theories/practices/principles involved in the provision of training
Knowledge of principles of adult learning and various learning styles
Knowledge of curriculum development methods and processes, including developing/conducting training needs assessments and program evaluations
Thorough knowledge of the MTO Highway Traffic Act and Regulations
Thorough knowledge of MTO Driver Certification Program, Defensive Driving and MTO Air Brake Endorsement Course
Knowledge of Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration
Expertise in developing learning solutions using emerging instructional technologies, including equipment to develop multimedia presentations
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
