Heavy Equipment Operator

Role Description The Heavy Equipment Operator is a full-time, on-site role located in Halifax, NS. This position is responsible for safely operating a range of heavy equipment for excavation, pipe work, roadwork, and related civil construction tasks. Day-to-day duties include operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, and other equipment; performing basic inspections and routine maintenance; and working with site supervisors to complete projects on schedule. The operator will follow site plans, grade and move earth and materials, load and unload trucks, and assist with setup and cleanup of work areas. The role requires adherence to safety regulations, proper use of personal protective equipment, and effective communication with crew members and supervisors.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in Heavy Equipment and Equipment Operation, including excavators, loaders, and similar machinery.
• Experience with Excavation work, including grading, trenching, and earth moving on civil construction sites.
• Ability to perform routine Equipment Maintenance and inspections to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Knowledge of operating Used Equipment safely and efficiently, with attention to performance and condition.
• Valid heavy equipment operator certification or equivalent experience in civil construction.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, including familiarity with construction safety standards.
• Ability to read and follow site plans, instructions, and project specifications.
• Reliable transportation to Halifax, NS worksites and willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions.
• Effective teamwork and communication skills; ability to follow direction and work with diverse crews.
